customs forms
« on: July 07, 2004, 05:07:21 PM »
I am putting together my boxes to ship over to London.  How detailed do I have to make the forms?  Do I have to put exactly the number of shirts or pairs of shoes?  Exactly what sort of kitchen item (ex. tongs) that I'm sending?  Thanks!

The shipping company I am going with told me to include a packing list and basically you need to describe what is in the boxes, but very generic, ie Box 1 dishes, box 2 books, etc.

The number of boxes/items (ie chair, bike) has to match the total number on your list or you may have trouble clearing customs.

Hope that helps!

I'm not using a shipping company...just usps (post office), so I'm hoping that most people who used them in the past could help with this!

I've had lots of stuff sent via USPS and I've just written "previously owned items" and a vague list (e.g. "kitchen tools") and it's always been fine. The key is the "previously owned items" part - that's what keeps you from getting charged customs! Hope that's somewhat helpful!   :)

I wrote something like previously owned personal items being shipped to new home in UK. Some of them I wrote additional info like Clothes.. or CD's etc.

Not one of my boxes was opened. :)
