In the international aisle...Kraft Mac & Cheese Dinner...£1.09 a box.

My son is having some for his dinner right now.

Random or what...

Is it particularly different from a Batchelors Pasta 'n' Sauce - Macaroni Cheese variety?

Wow! That is a good find.

From my understanding, Kraft mac-and-cheese in a red box has been found pretty widely, but it's not the same thing, and has disappointed many an expat. I've never seen it, so haven't tried it.

Was anyone else shocked to see mac-n-cheese in a can here?  I NEVER saw that in the US!  Also never saw hot dogs in a can.

Also hot dogs in a jar. As DH sniffily says, the Germans invented them and that's how they package them.

My favorite is omelette, chips and beans in a can. Hoo boy! Scrambled eggs, french fries and baked beans in a can! I took a can of that back to the States with me and it became my department's unofficial mascot.

I wonder if they opened it after I left...

Ooh, thanks for that Racheee!   :)  I'll have to keep an eye out next time we go (I'm in need of a trip to Chavda).   ;D

Hot dogs in a can crack me up every time I see them at the store!  And the misguided notion that "American" food items have corn on them.  Lidl has this "Classic American Pizza" and it's covered with a random assortment of food, including CORN!  I do know that this is German "American" food, but still...it will give people ideas. ;)

I've seen both in the US.

It is different, but it's hard to explain how. I guess the first thing you can note is that the Kraft variety has orange-coloured cheese sauce (it starts off as an orange powder that is in a separate packet from the pasta - you boil the pasta first, drain it, then add the powder, butter and milk at the end) whereas the Batchelors has a white cheese sauce and is just boiled all together with the sauce powder mixed in. The flavour is different, too, it seems the Kraft has a more concentrated cheese flavour, and I would think it has more sodium, too. The pasta in both is fairly similar, though, as far as shape and size. The Batchelors Pasta n' Sauce packets remind me more of the Lipton Pasta Sides they had in the US (packaged the same way, somewhat similar flavour varieties.)

Has anyone else?  Is that a Southern thing?  The first time I got home from ASDA I actually googled "hot dogs in a can" and "mac n cheese in a can" just to see if I had been deprived (not that I would EVER eat either one of those regardless of the country it is in) all these years and I couldn't find anything on either of those being available in America (especially not at ASDA equivalent Wal-Mart)...so I just figured it was a British thing.

I'm from the South originally, and I was going to say I'd never seen either in a can. But now that I think about it, I'm not confident. It's been a long time since I lived there, and we do like us some canned goods...

I remember seeing mac n cheese in a can...it was usually near the chef boyrdee items.  I'm thinking it was under the Franco-American brand.
Never did see hot dogs in a jar/can in the states though.  Unless you count vienna sausages as a hot dog!

Great..I found a box of red mac n cheese a while ago and have been saving it.  I really, really don't like shopping as Asda but may have to go in soon to see if they have the blue box.
