IA: Went to Battersea today and couldn't adopt a kitty who looked like a twin to ours and was super sweet.

UP: Adopted a super cute kitty instead! She weighs 9kg, though, so our project will be a diet/exercise plan for her. She's settling in well so far and seems quite happy to be away from the shelter.

How difficult was it to adopt did you need home visits and stuff? I want a kitty from Battersea but I want an indoor cat and not sure how they'll feel about that

IA: my broadband has been down for over 24 hours now (although it pops back on intermittently)

UP: I managed to get sooooo much done today without the distraction of being online.

Generally speaking, they only allow a cat to be indoor-only if they have FIV.

We got our kittens from the SSPCA and they didn't blink an eye when we said they'd be indoor only.

IA: The guy making my engagement ring is not the best communicator. He eventually does tell you things, but only after you nag him to see what the situation is.

UP: Turns out he's shipped the ring! Yay!

IA: He hasn't sent me the tracking information. ::)

UP: The ring's on its way!

Interesting.  Both Battersea and the RSPCA told us we couldnt adopt a cat because we live too close to a main road.  I told them that shouldnt matter because our cat would be indoor only, and they were very clear that they don't allow cats to be indoor only unless there is a reason such as FIV or other health concerns. I suppose everyone's experience is different.   (I was able to adopt our beloved cat from a smaller rescue with the intention of keeping her indoors, but she now does go out in the garden and luckily never leaves it)

IA: Trying to sell my scuba gear and had a hacker try to screw me out of my money for my gear.

UP: Luckily I was on to him and never sent the stuff and spoke with Ebay and Paypal open a fraud case with him. Let the jerk know the deal was off because I found him out and he should be ashamed of himself to which he replied with a "F&%* you and I'm going to report you to the FBI..."  ::) Really buddy?!? You've been caught, deal with it! LOL!

UP: My ILR visa is being done by an immigration solicitor - yay benefits of work permits!  :)

UP: And I got my date for an in-person appointment, in mid December!  I didn't have to stay up until midnight to get an in person appointment.

IA: I have to go to Sheffield!  (Nothing against Sheffield, but its a long way away. Glasgow is even a treck)

UP: I have to go there, because I have to meet the solicitor before hand and they will double check everything

IA: I live in the north of Scotland- I can't 'nip home' if I forget anything.  And I have to figure out how to get to Sheffield!?

A hopeful UP:  It will be an awesome Christmas present to get ILR.

Who can tell me how to get to Sheffield?

UP: I have been driving around a brand new VW Polo all week.  Oh man, I am in love with this car, its awesome to drive, so intuitive, and drives so well.

IA:  I have to give it up on Friday. Boo.  And I have to go back to a 12 year old Ford Focus Estate car which I don't really like too much :-\\\\   :\\\'(

I have several IAs/UPs today....

First, IA: Hurricane Sandy. I know that it was much more than an IA for a lot of people, including most of my family but for me, it was an IA. I didn't lose power, my car is fine, local supermarkets have food and there was no damage to my apartment. Biggest inconvenience was being without cell service for a few days.

UP: Discovering the magic that is El Bloombito on twitter as a result of the storm. Mayor Bloomberg had a ton of press conferences before, during and after the storm and he always finishes with a "summary" for "our Spanish speaking viewers" that is beyond hilarious. Clearly, someone on his staff writes out the Spanish for him but he's never had any kind of basic Spanish pronunciation lesson so it's really funny to hear him. Someone is parodying this on Twitter into really terrible broken Spanish and it's magic. https://twitter.com/ElBloombito

IA: I don't have a lot of gas in my car. I was on a quarter of a tank before the storm and didn't fill up because I didn't foresee this gas shortage and ultimately, I don't really need to drive anywhere, it's not necessary to my life. Also I prefer to buy gas in NJ where it's cheaper and don't have to pump it myself. A quarter of a tank can last me for a little while but mostly, I need to go to NJ next week, where there may or may not be gas available...

UP: They (the military) are giving up to 10 gallons of gas away free at 5 locations in the city today. Huzzah!

IA: I don't know if I want to deal with the lines and insanity that that will cause...

From the TV coverage, it looks absolutely insane trying to get gas. But glad you weren't trapped in a high rise with no electricity.

UP: Obama won! I say unexpected because I never like to assume, and it was close there for a while!

IA: It's all overshadowed by the fact that there's a nor'easter coming this way today. I really hope it doesn't have too much of an impact on an already delicate situation. Definitely worried. I have friends here that STILL don't have power.

I'm hoping they're just hyping up the nor'easter.  :P

My IA is clearing out my admittedly excessive wardrobe. I had so many different jobs and job interviews and varying sizes over the past 15-odd years that I just accrued all kinds of stuff and hate throwing out anything that might be useful. A friend suggested I just throw out everything and then replace it all from M&S but I couldn't find much I like there.  :(

UP: I am finding it easier than I thought. Found some old M&S goodies I had squirreled away thinking they might fit again (no!). Pulled them out and realized they were way out of fashion. The suits had big shoulders, pleats in the trousers and skirt and all were way too long! What was I thinking? Off to Goodwill donation truck.
