UP: It's turning out to be a lovely day weatherwise

IA: We canceled our picnic plans because the weather report was a wet one!  >:(

Weather's a bit all over the place here!  This morning was much brighter (some clouds here & there) than I expected, but very windy - really too windy to BBQ safely.

Now the dark clouds are amassing...  Steve predicts rain for the afternoon, clearing off in time for our BBQ this evening.  I hope he's right!  :P

UP: After many hours, I finally solved this work problem.

IA: Now I don't want to tackle any other things.

UP: My older sister is getting married!  :)

IA: She got engaged over two weeks ago and no one from the family bothered to tell me until I called yesterday for a chat.  :-\\\\

UP: I got a pedicure yesterday and my toes look lovely!

IA: The more I reflect on the experience, the more uncomfortable I feel about it. I used to get a mani/pedi regularly in the US (at a nice day spa), so I do realize it's different when you're a 'regular'. But, the woman doing my nails wasn't chatty. I tried to make a little small talk with her (she was Irish, so no language barrier), but I realized quickly it was futile. That's fine, but I realized that none of the girls were talking to their customers. When they talked to each other you could barely hear them. Upon reflection it was a bit of a 'seen, but not heard' type of situation. The salon was in a posh part of Dublin (my first time going), so I'm not sure why I'm surprised by this. Anyways, I don't think I'm going to go back there.  :-\\\\  I need to go back to Baltimore and find Estelle!!!

UP: I had a job interview yesterday that I think went really well, I'm expecting an offer later today.

IA: Now I need to figure out whether to accept their offer, which means leaving my current contract early. There are pros and cons to each position, but more pros with this new position, I think. Still, I feel kind of weird/slightly guilty for planning on leaving my current position early (I just got a contract extension before being contacted about this role).

Good luck, equestrian!

IA: The library experienced serious flooding in Saturday's rain storm (Cambridge and Somerville were hit hard) Industrial fans still going in our work area -- sounds like a jet plane!

UP: We may get sent home!!   ;D

Good luck, equestrian!

Thanks! Looks like they're ironing out an offer today, which leads me to a revised IA/UP.

UP: Job offer from a cool-sounding company doing cool-sounding work. (Technically more pay as well, but commuting costs will eat that up, see below).

IA1: Job is based primarily in Cambridge, which means my commute time will roughly double (but should also be more comfortable on an overground train vs underground tube), and costs will also go up.

IA2: Still have to tell the current job that I'm leaving, which I want to do in a way so that they don't feel shafted. Still working out how to do that well.

IA: I accidentally broke my Kindle yesterday (screen is cracked) - I've only had it for 4 months :(

UP: I called Amazon Customer Services about it and they said they can replace it with a new one for free and also reimburse the shipping costs for me to send the broken one back to the US :)

IA: Because I had the Kindle shipped to a US address (while I was staying with a friend), they can only send the replacement to a US address - so they're going to send it to my aunt instead.

UP: They're shipping it out today so it should be delivered to my aunt tomorrow!

IA: Either my aunt will have to ship it on to the UK for me (which will probably incur customs charges) or I'll have to wait a couple of months for my brother to bring it home with him when he visits her in a few weeks, which means I won't get the replacement until mid-September :(

IA:  DHs Van which has been on it's last legs for a while has today finally given up the ghost!

UP: A friend knows of someone selling a van at a LOT less than the market value and it's ours if we want it

UP:  Our poor parched gardens are finally getting a little rain today.

IA:  It's St. Swithin's Day and folklore says if it rains on this day then it will rain for the next 40 DAYS?!!

I would call it an old wives' tale except I've endured a few washout English summers now and realize it's possible. Especially since the school summer holidays are due to start next week.

IA:  Don't think there's enough money in the budget for a trip to the US this fall.  :(

UP:  Not for that, and the trip we are thinking about to either Corsica or Morocco!  :D

ps - Think my niece is getting married in Oct 2011, so may just save up to do a long US trip then - but dang, that'll then be nearly 2 1/2 years since we've been which has been the longest time in between ever.  :-\\\\
