IA: So the keys I thought I left at work earlier this week are in my coat...which isn't at work. I've now called 3 lost property offices and filed reports, but am not holding out hope. :(

UP: Guess this gives me a reason to buy the coat I've been eying/unable to justify.

UP: Found a dreamy Austrian holiday in a four-star hotel in a lovely little village for cheap if things work out job-wise. We seriously need a break, and DH has always wanted to go to Austria.

IA: Not sure things are going to work out, job-wise.  :-\\\\

UP:Had a very productive meeting at school regarding our 9 year old.
IA: One of the suggestions was for a piece of equipment that will help in in school.  Trouble is, they don't have the funds for it and I'm not sure if we have it either.  Perhaps I can turn it into a Christmas present for her...

Not really IA/UP, but it fits here...big announcement (a few months post-merger) at DH's work today...

The Good News - he gets to keep his job (for now anyway).

The Bad News - his boss is being made redundant.  He likes his boss & they have worked together a really long time (years & years).  Plus DH will now be reporting to some guy he doesn't know in the Bristol office, which probably isn't going to be very ideal or comfortable for DH.   :-\\\\  (also I hope it doesn't mean they are going to want him to relocate to Bristol eventually because neither of us wants that!)

Waiting for him to get home to hear all the details.  I feel really badly for his boss.  :(

Eeeek, Mrs. R. Sounds like a close call. (How could you leave lovely Leeds!)

UP: One of our managers has been promoted to another part of the university, which is great for him.

IA: Bad for us -- and also the Director has hinted at more change to come in new year  ???

Glad Steve gets to keep his job. I hope the details don't include moving to Bristol!  :-\\\\

Wow!  I hope Steve will keep his job for as long as he wants it and I hope you never have to leave Leeds (unless you want to)!

Thanks all.  I think DH is a little down, but it's still all not set in stone & what will be, will be, eh?  His boss is of the belief that he (the boss) is being the victim of a corporate stitchup & dastardly-doo-doo orchestrated by a guy (who used to be the boss's boss) with whom he had words in the past.  (there are good reasons, obvious signs for him to think that)

They have a 90-day consultation period over the change, so his boss is already rallying some important internal customers in other parts of the business to go to bat for him (and the team really) as to why what they are doing, as they are doing it, is essential to the business (i.e., they generate A LOT of income for the company).  He has some of the directors involved on board with a counterproposal.  Bristol offices are all about outsourcing to India, which I sense is where this might be headed at some point - except the code base/platform that DH's team operates on is pretty vast & complex & well - serious money-making - such that it would be very challenging to export & maintain the corporate advantage in it.  (They have been doing dynamic work in Leeds, sort of apart from the nonsense in Bristol, for a long time -- all to do with what were different companies originally, that have merged & rebranded & so on & so forth over a 10 year period.)  The suits in Bristol honestly haven't a clue as to what his team really does - big corporation, everybody having their own little fifedoms in a huge operation, no cooperation/communication/etc, that sort of thing.

So it's not over 'til the fat lady sings, I guess.  And I'm not planning to go & sing for them.  :P

So sorry to hear that Mrs. R, all my best to you and hubby!

IA: Still no *real* internet and landline.

UP: We have cable, so we're just waiting for them to switch the phone line on- they said by Monday.

UP: The meeting I didn't want to deal with today has been rescheduled for Monday.

IA: No one bothered to let me know they'd prefer Monday until this morning, after I'd already come in to work. Still not feeling well, so I'd have much preferred staying in bed for another hour rather than getting on the train.

So sorry that you and Steve are going through this Mrs R-I hope it all turns out for the best and that you all can stay in Leeds.

SarahJoyHappy, I feel your pain about 'real' internet.  We went for almost 2 months with lousy internet and it about drove me insane.

Mrs R, I'm sorry to hear the bad news about your husband's office.  :( I'm glad he's managed to hold on to his job though.

UP: We're going to a pub tonight to help celebrate a friend's birthday

IA: the friend in question is really more of an acquaintance and I while I like the idea of going out and being social I expect my BF will spend the whole evening reading his RSS feeds on his phone and I'll be too shy to talk to anyone and we'll wish we'd stayed home and watched season 3 of The Big Bang Theory instead.
