Honeymoon outside the UK on a fiancee visa
« on: July 27, 2009, 04:47:25 AM »
Hi all ~

I was wondering is it possible to travel outside the UK while on a fiancee visa once I'm married?  I know I would no longer be considered a fiancee but is there some sort of extra form or stamp or something you can get to act as a sort of waiver?

We haven't chosen the place for our honeymoon yet but wanted to have the option of traveling outside the UK.

You could travel outside of the UK on your fiancee visa, but the problem is you can't re-enter the UK under your fiancee visa once you are married.

Your best option would be to hold off on the honeymoon until after you get your spousal visa....or go on vacation before the wedding! ;)

You do have one other option...honeymoon to the US and apply for your spousal visa from there...not really something one wants to do on their honeymoon but it adds to your options.

Becca is right. Once you're married you're no longer a fiancee and even if you do leave and happen to get back into the UK on your fiancee visa, you will most likely face MAJOR hassle from the IO AND you could be refused your spousal visa for breaching the terms & conditions of your fiancee visa by basically making an illegal entry. Whilst others have done this (though having major hassle by the IO and the Home Office), it is highly recommended that you sort out your FLR(M) as soon as possible once you're married to avoid any potential risks & hassles during travel.

The other option is to have your wedding as planned but don't fill in any paperwork, then once you're back from your honeymoon head down to your local friendly registry office.   That way, although in your head you'll be happily married you can still truthfully tell the IO that you're a fiance.

There are plenty of lovely places to honeymoon in the UK, that's what we did!  Stayed in a romantic hotel in the Lake District and went for lots of walks and had a gourmet dinner on a sailboat!

Why not have a couple of days honeymoon somwhere in the UK then do your overseas honeymoon a bit later when you've sorted out the visa business?

I agree. There are some REALLY beautiful places to go right here in the UK! The Lake District is my current favorite. :)

My husband and I had an issue of time and money for ours. Our wedding was small (9 guests, SMALL) due to funds, and Vincent had to go back to the UK 3 days afterwards. We ended up just staying in a hotel in Pittsburgh for 2 nights and we are planning a belated honeymoon to Naples in the next year or so! :) Different reasons, but same idea...
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

I have no problem honeymooning in the UK --- however my Sweetums wanted the option of traveling outside the UK.  Now he's looking into where we can go ..... the Lake District is a definite possibility.
