Wine, itunes, missing him.
« on: August 09, 2009, 06:08:32 AM »
There was a discussion about movies you watch while you are desperately missing your long distance love, so what about songs?

Whenever I'm feeling particularly mushy and missing my significant other I have certain tunes I listen to, what about you?

 Mine are-

1. Otis Redding- That's How Strong My Love Is

2. The Clash- Spanish Bombs ..strange, but it is one of my favorites and reminds me of one of our happiest moments...any Clash makes me happy, especially this one though.

3.A ridiculous number of Beatles songs. Across the Universe especially.

4.I Only Have Eyes for You- The Flamingos

5.Sleeping Lessons-The Shins

6.Whole Wide World- Wreckless Eric

God , I've become a pathetic soppy idiot. Oh well. There are many more but these are my top 6.
Here we go:

Other than the fact that Nancy would not need the support of an internet forum whilst missing Sid.

I was just thinking about this topic earlier. I am glad you posted it! In no particular order mine are:

  • Hellogoodbye - Oh it's Love
  • Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism
  • Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into the Dark
  • Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight
  • Blue October - Calling You
  • Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me
  • Jack Johnson - Better Together (My bf played this to me all the time. It was wonderful when we went to the beach one night and he brought his guitar and started playing it. He wont entirely admit it, but he can be romantic. I miss that.)

I am sure there is loads more. I am going to listen to a few of yours.

I am never this sappy! Maybe it's because I have too much time on my hands or maybe it's because I am getting ready to see my bf in September, I dunno. At least we can be pathetic saps together! (Hrm... I just realized I need to get another glass of wine. Cheers!) ;)

My now DH and I have quite differing musical tastes, so it was kinda one-sided in terms of getting solice in music during our ldr.  But we managed to find some common ground when planning our wedding music.  After the ceremony, we walked back down the aisle to Better Together by Jack Johnson - it was great!
We also had a few other chosen songs throughout the evening - Paolo Nutini, Loving You;  Katie Melua, Thank You Stars; Madness, It Must Be Love; Chantal Kreviazuk, Feels Like Home, amongst others.  Our first dance song always makes me teary, and the first time I played it for him, he got teary to - Songbird sung by Eva Cassidy.  And it was the perfect length for a first dance song, too!  (not too long!)

Well, I no longer have to miss him, fortunately! But we made a playlist (I love Otis, btw, Dangerface!) and we each had it on our iPod/iTunes and listened to it all the time. Here are the top picks:

Dakota - Stereophonics
Everybody's Changing - Keen
High - James Blunt
In My Place - Coldplay (I walked down the aisle to a beautiful string quartet instrumental version of this since it's hubby's favourite song)
Ultraviolet - U2
Beautiful Day - U2 (this was the song that was played just after the ceremony, when we walked down the aisle together and everyone threw rose petals!!!)
and the top killer that still makes me cry to this day is The Luckiest by Ben Folds, I played it at the wedding just before I walked down the aisle and it made everyone tear up. I still can't hear it without crying!
Also, the entire Depeche Mode Violator album.

(Oh, and Dangerface - God Save the Queen was on our playlist, too.  :) As well as London Calling, since that was our theme song before we met in person in London!)

there are so many good tunes on this thread. my vote goes to transatlanticism by death cab- the end of that song is waaaay powerful and quite cathartic if you sing along at a high volume.

"i need you so much closer"
The economy fell apart. Then we moved to Brighton. Disappointing- yes. Any regrets? No. I am interested in meeting Sussex people and any other souls that have a shared mission of getting to know the rest of the world better. My Blog: daveavenue.

Oh my Love- John Lennon
There is a light- Morrissey
Come What May- Moulin Rouge

And a bunch more, but I'm with the bf now so I can't think of it. Hit me up next week, I'll be a weepy mess.  :(

That is awesome!  Almost makes me want to have a wedding just to work some Coldplay into it :)

Sufjan Stevens.  DH introduced me to his music and now hearing it always makes me think of our long-distance courtship. :)
