Flipping Customs!!! ARGH
« on: July 16, 2004, 03:39:48 PM »
So i sent 5 boxed via UPS.  I filled out the forms, noted that i was going to be living there, labeled it all pre-owned....and they wanted to charge my inlaws 140 quid for my bike ALONE in  import tax.  ARGH>>>>>

At least david called and they are sending on c3 forms to state that i will be living there in september and for now, my boxes with half my belongings are in the UPS factory over there.

You should be alright with the USPS.  As long as you've checked "gift" rather than "merchandise" and clearly filled out the customs forms, you (or whomever claims the packages) shouldn't have to pay any tax.  I sent nearly a dozen big boxes over and didn't pay a cent (or pence).  Good luck!   :)

Don't stress Amy, it's ok!!!  I got sent some very expensive lingerie for an engagement gift and they made us pay £30.  Richard should not have paid for it, but he didn't think about it just did it!!!  I'm sure it will be cleared up in no time!!!

I'm hoping that this does not happen to me!  Then again on all my USPS customs forms I've entered the spot "other" and put 'used items for personal use'...plus I put a copy of the receipt for my laptop (from over 1 yr ago) in the box.  OY.  I hope it all works out fine for you!
