Iced Tea?
« on: August 14, 2009, 03:18:13 PM »
I have been here a few years but I miss Iced tea so badly. I have tried to make it over here but I cant find the right kind of tea bags. Does anyone make good Iced tea using the tea bags available over here? Maybe I just don't do it right. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I brought a big box of Lipton family sized bags with me when I moved so I use those sometimes. But often it's a hassle to make a big pitcher and fit it in our tiny fridge since I am the only one drinking it, so sometimes I just brew a cup of Tetley as usual, let it cool down a bit, then pour over ice and add some Robinson's Black Currant concentrated juice stuff, which is the best thing ever invented when you add it to some iced tea! It usually does the trick for me.  :)

I make it often, using orange pekoe teabags.

I made iced tea with Tetley bags while I was visiting.

I haven't made it over here yet, but I've asked a few waiters for iced tea and it took me a few instances of getting really odd beverages before realizing that they don't usually make it here.

Fun stuff.

Ask for a cuppa, and a glass of ice.  :)

Heh! This reminds me of when I lived in Germany and tried to explain to a few Italians how to make a Coke float. It took four of them half an hour and several Italian expletives to create a massively explosive concoction, and they swore such a thing was impossible to make and I was never to ask for another one.

They do overflow a bit if you pour the Coke on too fast... ah, the great American joys. :)

I just saw a big box of Lipton tea bags in my local Asda.

Ask for a cuppa, and a glass of ice.

I've done this soooooo many times when I've wanted iced coffee. (Me, Do you have iced coffee? Them, No, we don't serve that. Me, do you serve coffee? Them, yes, we have coffee. Me, do you have ice? Them, Yes we have ice. Me, can I get a cup of coffee and a glass of ice?)  ::)

Mmm...Iced Tea! I so want a glass of it now. I was addicted to the Lipton Peach Tea and Sweet Tea bottles you could buy at any Circle K or 7-Eleven. Yum!

Ahhhh...iced tea. I live on it in the Summer. You'll never break a Tennessee girl of that.

The irony is, good quality, strong tea like you often get in the UK is likeliest to go cloudy (the cloudiness is tannins). That supposedly doesn't affect the flavor, but you won't convince me. Cloudy tea is...meh. Cooling it down too fast will cloud it, too.

I buy the cheapest, nastiest own brand tea in the supermarket for iced. The kind that's, like, 80p a box. Two bags in a big tea pot, with sweetener and a few cloves, if desired. Usually, I end up mixing it with what's leftover cold in the pot from my husband's expensive loose Assam. The two together are just about the perfect flavor.

Since refrigerator real estate is so scarce, I often leave my big tea jar out on the counter with a lid on and count on the ice for chilling it. It keeps fine.

Except the "cuppa" will come with milk already added in many places.
