My partner, Pam and her two dogs are moving over on October 22nd to live with me in South Wales. We have waited almost four years to be together. She hasn't had time to get involved in this site yet so I have been here for a while now, trying to get as knowledgeable as I can be so we do everything right. Her house is sold, dogs vaccination protocol in order, shipping on the way, civil partnership provisionally arranged  and just the small matter of the VISA still to do!! I've just completed the sponsor section and will fedex all my documents to her next week. She will then do the application and we will use an expiditing service for the Chicago consulate. This site will be a fabulous resource for Pam once she is here and I'm happy that there are a ton of Americans for her to e-hang out with for when she needs a change from us Brits!

Nice thread idea -- We're shipping out of central Illinois in a couple of weeks and looking to arrive in time for my daughter to start school. We're going to be in Surrey initially, although depending on where the job market leads us we're likely to be moving on from there once we land a gig. I'm currently having to make those tough decisions (keep? chuck? sell?) for pretty much all our stuff -- yard sale last weekend was a moderate success, we'll see what happens this weekend.

Substitute Edinburgh for Surrey, and you have just described my life!  We're leaving in three weeks - yikes! - and I am currently surrounded by boxes, garbage bags, and just... stuff.  Can't believe we're leaving so soon!

Lucky you! I studied at Edinburgh University, and to be honest I think I'd rather be heading there than Surrey. Still, it's all just temporary at this stage I s'pose. You're fortunate in your timing -- you'll catch the tail-end of the summer weather! Enjoy it while you can!

Add me to the list of people moving to the UK from central Illinois (hi Ben!).  My husband, son and I are moving to Oxford on September 13 so I can start a job there on October 1.  We shipped our boxes over nearly a month ago (still in transit), signed a lease on a flat, and successfully applied for visas.  All that is left is for my husband to find a job...

Good luck to everyone with their upcoming moves.

Arrived in Sheffield from Chicago on Tuesday.  Belongs do not arrive until October.  We have spent the first few days adjusting to the time difference.  Not going so well as I am now up at 2:30am posting.

Fantastic [smiley=guitarist.gif]

cause I'm stuck in the US. I have a lovely US wife (for 43 years) as a reward for staying.

Wow! Good luck and congrats everyone! I will be moving from Chicago, to North London/Hertfordshire area at the end of September, early October to join my husband. As soon as I have the spouse visa in my hands, I can begin trying to sell my car and other belongings as well as buy my plane ticket!
Follow your bliss.
