If you take no action on the request they've sent you, they will not be able send you another friend request. You will appear instead as a pending friend request when they view you in Search or elsewhere on the site until you either accept or ignore the request.

So if you don't want people to send repeat requests, just never bother to respond to it seems to be facebook's advice. Which is weird, because I swear I was able to re-request someone who never responded to my initial request.

Maybe they did.

I don't like this system -- this way it's possible to know when people reject or ignore you: if your request is not pending anymore and you don't have a new friend....
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I can't actually find a place where you can see who is still pending other than running a direct search for the person.

If you go to Friends --> All Friends --> All Connections  you can see "Friend Request Pending" for people.

Does anyone know if you can take your profile out of the suggestions section on the Facebook home page?  I have un-friended people and they ask again (months later) most likely because they see me pop up.

I'm not sure about opting out of being suggested completely, but you could block your profile from those specific people. I *think* that would do the trick.

I had a weird friend request today.  I don't recognize the name, so I replied with my standard "sorry, I can't place your name, could you remind me of how I know you" message and googled the name.

Turns out they write Erotica.

Ummmmm.

Yeah. DECLINE.

Um, I just joined the Farmville fan page 5 minutes ago and already have two friend requests from people I don't know. One said he saw me on the Farmville page and asked me to be neighbors, the other is from the UK has no mutual friends and didn't put a personal message.

I want more neighbors, so I"m halfway tempted to just add the one guy who specifically mentioned being Farmville neighbors and setting it so he doesn't see anything, but I'm not sure....

Double posting to say be careful about the privacy settings if you use Firefox!!!!

I decided to add that one guy and make it so he couldn't really see any more than someone who is not a friend.

It didn't work when I followed all the directions for privacy settings when I was using Firefox. I found the help threads for Facebook and someone said they thought it was a glitch with Firefox and to try Safari or Internet Explorer. I tried it in IE and it worked, however the guy was still able to see stories posted to my wall and he can see the post stating I made a Catbook for my cat, even though I set that application to block him. I had to go application by application blocking this group. (I created a Farmville group before adding him.) He can now only see the pages I belong to, the posts for when I friend someone, and any Farmville stories or posts. I figured that was good enough, at least he can't see any status updates, notes, pictures, or personal information.

Just be careful and always double check!!!

Thanks, R. I'm getting ready to redo all my settings and I use Firefox.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Reading this thread, I was reminded of a song I saw on youtube not to long ago... very pretty sounding and funny, but there is an f-bomb or two, just to warn you! (It's a gal named Kate Miller-Heidke.)

Thanks for this. I had no idea. It turns out the people that I've blocked from seeing my status updates can now see them since I switched to Firefox. Do you know if there is anyway to fix that?  :-\\\\ TIA

P., for me it worked to just do all of the privacy settings for each app and the profile in IE. Immediately after that I went back to using Firefox last night. I made a status update from Firefox this morning and double checked the "Farmville" list for people I've added while using Firefox and it's been fine. You just have to use IE or Safari to do the privacy settings and Firefox should be okay from there. Just randomly double check once in a while because some people in that thread said that some people weren't "sticking" in those privacy lists.

It took me about 1/2 hour and was so annoying, but it worked. Facebook and Firefox really need to work on this!!
