What did you decide to do?

I also would add that the QM2 Kennel does run a wait list.  We called them early this summer, and got our cat on the September voyage after a cancellation from another owner.  I don't know how often it happens, but it does work out sometimes, if you have flexibility with the dates.

Make sure you factor in the cost of yourself being on the boat as well.  When I inquired about prices, my pets would've been about 1/2 the cost of airfare, but getting a bed on the boat would run about 4x as much as a plane ticket.

That, combined with 10hrs of possible stress/confinement vs 6 days = easy win for plane tickets IMO.  YMMV, of course.

(Also, last I checked, the QM2 does not run during the winter months, so that's another factor in scheduling trips.  I believe their last run in the fall is in November, and their first run is in April.)

yes the qm2 are on at least a yr wait list for kennels............im taking the boat.......it will be a sort of honeymoon for us.........cost around 2800 for the two of us then 300 for the doggies.........from my understanding they take the dogs out five times daily at which time you can visit.......if you need more visitations it is available with advance notice.......dogs get all types of special treats.....clothing etc.

Hi,
We came over on Qm2 last june because i couldnt fly my dogs, they are both rescues with 'issues' and i dont think they would have stood it to be honest. They LOVED it on QM2 i think they had a better time than we did, they were only in their cages for about 3-4 hours in the day, and of cuorse at night, they were out in the playroom the rest of the time with the other dogs and there was a dedicated 'kennel master' whose only job was to look after them.
It is a bit more expensive for people, but keep in mind there is so luggage allowance, i think we ended up with something like 11 cases and bags because i BADLY underestimated how much stuff to leave out when the movers came to pack our crate, think of the cost of that on the plane!! plus it was nice to not have to live out of 1 suitcase for 6 weeks while we waited for our crate to arrive!

the other thing was, it was nice to have the 6 days break after all the craziness of the last few days leaving america becuase it was so manic trying to get everything done and saying goodbye to everyone. My husband and i didnt have the best time on the boat as we are fairly young and its geared to older people, but I'm glad we did it if only for the dogs sake.
