The Blog Thread
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:39:34 PM »
So lately I've been searching posts on UKY looking for the people who have kindly linked their blogs in their sigs.  Thus, it would be easier for everyone with a blog to post it in a thread.

I must admit, I've become almost addicted to reading the blogs of you other expats whilst at work.

Post those links!

Well, mine is in my sig and fairly boring (mostly book reviews).  I'm trying to post more "what's going on" stuff, but...most of it would just say "filled out another job app"! I've also got more reviews up at bookgeeks.co.uk if that sort of thing interests you.

This thread is a great idea though; I love reading about other people's experiences.

I've just added my blog to my sig. It actually never occurred to me to do so before. I have a whole folder full of blogs that I (try to) keep up with. Expat blogs, parenting blogs (I'm a new step mother).

My blog is at http://blog.beccajanestclair.com. It's mostly travel related :)

I also have an LJ at http://annaonthemoon.livejournal.com. it's a locked journal and much more personal, but if you add me there and comment letting me know who you are from UKY I have no problems adding people. I just lock it so my family doesn't see that one.

My LJ is at http://haut-rian.livejournal.com. Most everything is open, but if you're on LJ and want to friend me just let me know so I don't look at my friends list and get paranoid :P

I'm also going to be working on a blog for when I move over in a couple weeks, mainly focusing on adjusting to life in the UK. It's mostly for my family so I don't have to direct them to my LJ which can be kinda personal at times, but if you want to read it it's http://guinnessfae.blogspot.com. There's not a ton there yet, but I'll work on it more once I'm over there :)

I need somebody to take a peek at my blog, I've only just started one....it's really just random thoughts and such. But it's kind of sad when there's nobody looking.  :\\\'( Any comments appreciated. (there are only two posts so far,  BTW) Link is below. Thanks!

I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like I'm blogging to myself, I get so few comments!

I just added you to my followed list on blogger (my SN is guinnessfae, just so you don't think I'm some weird stalker :P). I'll be using blogger a bit more once I move over since that's going to my 'omg life in the UK blog' thing and I love being able to be nosy and read other people's stuff :)

I know! I started my blog because I got tired of telling the same story/experience to 10 different people. So I had the brilliant idea of starting a blog, sharing it with everyone, and then they'd feel they were part of my life, maybe they would comment, it would just be a good thing all around. I put a counter on my blog. I know every time someone visits. And to a certain degree, I know who each person is.. .not so much now that I've got more visitors. But I've had something like 5-6 comments total. Two of them were from a stranger who just happened to happen upon my blog. And that's out of over 800 hits. And when I talk to people, I still get, "I keep forgetting to go to your blog" or I excitedly say, did you see the photos I put up of whatever and I get.. "um, no I haven't been in the last few months." Why do I bother? Oh well, it will be a record for me, at least. I had another friend suggest that I take photos of EVERYTHING. She said she wanted to see and experience what I saw. Has she ever commented? Hundreds of photos I have up now. Started the site just for her. Again, that will be a great momento for myself (as long as shutterfly doesn't go out of business).

I will do my best to start going to everyone's blogs. I've been spending way too much time trying to refresh mine. I'm having some technical difficulties with mine. I switched to a really cool template, but I've got some old widgets hanging around that I can't yet find the code for. I've gotten rid of 3 out of 4, and this last one is a pain!

Yeah, I'm betting the chances of my family actually reading my blog or looking at the pictures is pretty close to nil :-\\\\ But, I like to write, so it works out I suppose. When I was visiting the UK last year, my family kept telling me to email them and send pictures and stuff, and I think maybe I got one email back. Granted, my emails were as long as War and Peace, but I was hoping at least for a 'that's cool, thanks for taking the time to write an email, everyone's good over here' email every once and a while so I didn't feel like I was talking to myself. Then I figured, might as well turn those emails into blog posts where maybe *someone* would read my BS and waste a few minutes at the very least :P
