Favorite iPhone/iPod Touch Apps?
« on: August 22, 2009, 04:09:04 AM »
I'm having a blast finding some great iPhone apps! I'm not sure how many are the same between the US and UK, but let's share ideas! Please post the name and a brief description of the app.  :)

My favorites:
Tip Calculator: self explanatory
Pennies: Input a budget amount and the gas gauge meter tells you when you're getting close to "empty."
Have2P: Finds restroom locations
Barnes and Noble: Take a picture of a book and it'll tell you if they sell it and how much it costs
PixSter: Upload pictures to Facebook
Camerazoom: self explanatory
Shazam: Listens to a song (doesn't find my friend who has released CDs, but she's not been on the radio yet) and tells you the artist and song title. I love it for reminding me of songs to download later.
Dunkin' Run: sends invites to friends and they can place an order with the online menu and I can print it out or read it off my phone. Everyone I've used this with loves it!
iEmoji: cute little emoticons
Scrabble
Sudoku Lite
Scramble: The Facebook game where you have a grid of letters and have to make words.
Tap Tap Revenge: like Dance Dance Revolution, except you just tap the screen.
Guitar Tuner: plays the notes for you to tune your guitar

My two most-used apps are Shopper and Pocket God. Nothing like shopping lists and tormenting poor islanders to make me happy! ;D

If this could arrange for DD delivery to me in London, I'd be even happier.

I love scrabble and just downloaded the NPR app, but it doesn't keep playing when you go play scrabble or check email.  Big downside, if you ask me.

I love the Accuweather app, because it has more information than the standard weather app that's pre-programmed.

That's actually because of the Scrabble and email apps. That's the annoying thing about Scrabble, especially when you are on a flight.

I love TuneWiki (thanks Stacey!) which displays the lyrics to the song that your playing on your iPod.
Flight Control is a fun game and great time waster.

I love Flight Control!!!! I've had to stop playing with it for awhile because I was spending way too much time on it!

-Facebook/ Twitter apps
-WOWarmory - World of Warcraft app that keeps me up to date on guild raids and events ^_^
-Shazam - music identifier
-Around Me - easy app to find nearest restaurants, cafes, landmarks, etc.  integrates with google mail to route to a place once you've selected it.
-Flickup- upload photos direct to flickr
-Toy Camera- LOVE this camera app!  can apply filters to camera like hi con black and white, vintage warm (looks like pictures from the 70s) etc.

After spending lots of quality time with my friend's iPhone over the last three days, I am seriously considering getting one.   I love the apps, but I just hate the interface so much! :-\\\\

Also, the "pUniverse" app is fun to use, not really day to day usage tho.  It's a night sky tracker, providing constellations and notable stars/ visible planets.

But the best thing about it is the picture of the constellation locations changes as you move your phone. Meaning you aim your phone up to the sky, and it's showing you what youre looking for/at from that direction.

You need to get used to the interface G!  It takes awhile for some people. (But then OK, maybe some people just don't like it full stop ;))

I really like the new 3.0 Facebook app.  Though it had crashed on me when searching in the D's (For a friend with a D name)
Tunewiki  So great right P!!!
Pocket God  Thank you V!  Josh loves tis one too!
Flight Control  Again, Josh too!
TwitterFon The twitter app I like best out of all of them.
Accounts keep track of my bank accounts
Lose it Daily food diary, love this.  Has carb info too!
Skype I use it to chat. (I have an iTouch)
Amazon, Ebay, Barnes and Noble
Fandango When I'm in the US and want to look up movie info

Facebook - great since they have the page blocked at work
I can has cheexeburger - nothing like pictures of cats with silly captions to break up the day
Do Not Press The Red Button - nothing like being insulted by your own phone

I must say the thing we have the most fun with is the map app that the phone comes with.  I can entertain a 5 yr old for quite a while just looking at maps :)
Dream a dream of England .......... Some day

I really tried!!  I just hate it!  I hate the way you scroll and zoom and everything.  And I didn't like the Facebook app...but maybe I haven't seen the latest one.  I spend a lot of time on Facebook so I want to see everything!

I think you are very used to the BB.  Kind of why I can't get used to one of those.

The 3.0 came out last night, so it's brand new.

I haven't had a BB in a while though, but yes, I do prefer its interface.  I mostly like the keyboard (I hate the iPhone one so much!).  The thing is, although I like the BB, it's not nearly as useful as the iPhone/Touch.   :-\\\\

It took me a while to get used to (and stop complaining about!) the interface.  I still have occasional grumpy jags about it, but the apps and usefulness outweigh the annoying bits.

The old Facebook app SUCKS.  Hate it so much I actually dumped it off my iPod completely.  I'll give it another shot with the new one, but I don't have a lot of faith in it. :-\\\\

Yeah, I seriously did not get the point of having it on there at all.  What - I get status updates from a few people?  Who cares!
