Thanks for the help.  We went to the Jillian Graves today and they had loads of neat stuff (we had never been) but no chocolate chips.   We did just by a chocolate bar and will be chopping it up which is nice and tasty.

Groceries have gone up tons in the US over the last 2 1/2 years.  I imagine if you have not been there regularly to see it you might be surprised but many items have doubled or tripled.  The difference is that when I saw a sale in the US I knew if that was "good" price or not.  We are trying not to convert back to dollars and learn what a reasonable price is here but I think that will take a while.  So we may have to find more budget friendly desserts that chocolate chips cookies.  So far the 1 pound frozen strudels are a favorite but not a good substitute for the waistline.

sorry you didn't have any luck at Julian Graves. But at least you know what other goodies they have there! (love their choc cranberries mmm).

Can I suggest that that's a fast track to insanity?  ;) If you're getting paid in pounds, train yourself as soon as possible to think in pounds. You'll make yourself crazy if you try to convert everything all the time!

Do you like fruit deserts? If you go with what's on offer/in season a crumble or a pie is super cheap!

Most supermarkets sell their own brand chocolate bars for around 28p for a 100g bar. Four of those should be adequate for your cookies..  I prefer chocolate chips myself but can't justify the cost of those small bags...
