Driving lessons what company to use?

There are so many different driving schools out there and I need to take lessons just not sure on what company to pick?  IS it better to choose a company or a person who has their own business?  Any help would be greatly appreciated I live in Scotland

My bf lives in the Western Isles, but he's been looking at driving schools in Glasgow that offer intensive, week-long courses.  I think the one he's decided to go with is called Happy Hour.  It was recommended by his local driving instructor, as that's where he went for his instructor training.  If they train the trainers, they must be good. :p  I got the impression they were a chain of some sort, so you might find other locations. 

You didn't mention where in Scotland you are, so this might not be an issue, but if you're in a pretty rural area, the only thing I would suggest is to find out from any instructor you hire what their availability is like.  Bf's local instructor has been very good, but the driving lessons are just a sideline business for him, so he just isn't available often enough.  There've been a lot of canceled lessons, or 3-4 weeks between lessons, etc.  Since bf needs his license asap, that just isn't working.  Hence going to Glasgow for an intensive course.

Private sometimes doesn't do weekends and with a large company like RED they will have people that can do weekends.  It doesn't matter really in the end, as long as the instructor is good at what he does.

I took some lessons with the AA who just wanted me to keep booking lessons, and I didn't feel they challenged me enough, I switched to a private teacher who just wanted me to pass my damn test and she sure as hell challenged me. I learned much better from her. I would go with finding a private teacher, ask your neighbours if they know anyone.

My wife and I both used a local company, not a big national one.

If you're based in the Western Surrey/Eastern Hants area, I would recommend them.

I realize you didn't ask, but scout your test location before you take the test. I took mine in Guildford and regretted it. The test station is on a massive industrial road, choked with traffic that made just pulling out of the drive a huge test of patience. This station has a very low pass rate...and although I passed, it doesn't surprise me why.

I suggest you ask local people for a recommendation. I took 3 lessons with a guy who taught for BSM--he was not good at all and I dropped it. Then I got an instructor based on recommendation and her reputation amongst the locals, and she was excellent. I passed on my first attempt.
