This is what I found amazing about this site.  I put in my goal weight and the time by which I want to lose it and it told me how many calories to cut on a daily basis to get to that goal. And it's a managable amount that isnt going to leave me starving.  I sort of felt like "well if someone had simply put it this way sooner..."

Im happy to report that, a week in, I have lost 5 lbs.  I was crippled for 2 days after that 30 day shred dvd workout which left my couch potato legs in agony, but back in the saddle again.  It's prolly mostly water weight but hey.... 5 lbs... woot!

Congrats! I love keeping my food journal. Now that I have lost most of the weight I wanted to lose, I pretty much just keep to the diet on the weekdays, then don't worry about it so much on the weekends (I don't go crazy, but if I want some cookies, I will have some!) and I am still losing weight, so it seems to work for me. And I don't even work out! It's amazing how few calories you really need in a day, and it helps to drink a lot of water and tea.  :)

Ha, it's awful.  In a good way, but I completely forgot I worked out on Saturday morning, and then on Sunday, could NOT figure out why my legs were like jelly.  I had gone out the night before, so I was like..wait, did I run around the bar last night and not remember it?  Why do my legs hurt so much?..and then I remembered.  Oh, Jillian.

I signed up for FitDay (thanks to Navie's recomendations) and it's really cool.  But I don't like how it told me I can only eat 930 calories a day if I want to achieve my goal.  :\\\'(

When I first put in my weight loss goal (which obviously was unrealistic) it told me I needed to eat 0 calories per day...LOL!  Then it also told me that my weight loss goal per week was too high (I think it was like 3.something lbs).  Oh well, I actually did lose that much weight in that amount of time.  But it probably wasn't the healthiest thing in the world to do!

That simply means your goal loss vs time is unrealistic.

For myself, I put in I want to lose 50 lbs by this time next year, and was told by this to decrease my calorie intake to 1700.  Which is still alot IMO.

But it's not!  I don't think trying to lose 2 pounds a week is unrealistic?  I think it's a combination of me not doing any exercise (which I am thinking I'll keep that way and just have any extra be a bonus) and the fact that I'm so short and thus should eat a lot less.   :-\\\\

It really means that you don't need to actually lose weight, G.  :P

This could also be true  ;D  but even my goal is only, on ave., 1lb per week.

;D I do think that 2 lbs a week for your size is probably a bit fast and 930 calories is so little to eat.

I agree - 900 is too little!  But I thought 1-2 lbs a week was okay?   :-\\\\

You probably don't need to eat less, but just exercise more regularly. I know you're a dancing fiend, but maybe try something a bit more regular. Oh, and try to avoid the cupcake truck which I would find MUCH more difficult than exercising more!  :P

My boot camp ends on Thursday and I'm really worried about what my routine is going to be like after. I have all sorts of things floating around in my head to try out.  :-\\\\

Has anyone read this article titled 'Why Exercise Won't Make You Thin" in Time?

http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1914857,00.html

I found it fascinating.  One of the points I got out of it was that it's more diet rather than exercise that affects weight loss, because exercise can often stimulate hunger which negates the very benefit of burning the extra calories!  I tend to think of exercise as an added bonus rather than a way to lose weight.  But I do think exercise is very important for cardio strength and all the other benefits, obviously. For me the evidence has been mixed - recently the times I've lost the most weight are when I first started dancing like mad in 2006 and when I cut my calorie intake dramatically back in 2003.  So.  :-\\\\

Bmore...I avoided the cupcake truck today, but guess what I baked yesterday?! :-[

I did read that article and the point above isn't at all true for me. I find when I don't exercise I have many more cravings. When I do exercise I don't feel nearly as hungry. Overall exercise for me is the key to weight loss because it burns calories and I eat less when I do it!

I'm the opposite...I find that if I don't exercise regularly, I don't feel motivated to eat junk because I would feel guilty about it.  But when I exercise, I feel like I deserve it or I can afford to eat a little worse.

DH is the opposite and like you H, he eats best when he is working out the most.
