House Buying Nerves
« on: September 16, 2009, 05:03:51 PM »
FI put in an offer on our house in the UK yesterday & just let me know that our initial offer was rejected, as we thought it might be, but hoped they would accept of course. But now the estate agent has told us that someone else is bidding too. :( I'm trying not to be nervous. Like FI says, if we're meant to be in that house, we'll get it, if not, we're meant to be some where better.

PS My nervous tummy isn't listening to FI.

Hope all goes well with the house buying!

I was wondering the same thing. Usually you see DF (dear fiance) on here. :)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

When we were looking for a house this spring it seemed everyone we liked was getting bought up under our feet before we even had a night to sleep on it.  Then we looked at our current house and absolutely loved it. Someone had an offer in on it though, but the vendor hadnt even accepted it yet, so we got into a bit of a bidding war... but it was only very small... and we still ended up getting it for 5% less than the asking price (which was cheap to begin with). We had to close within 30 days though because it was a repossession and they even had to post our offer in the paper for other people to bid against because its some sort of law when its a repossession. Then, someone did come in with a cash offer... but when the estate agent asked them to return with proof of funds.... they never came back. In the end, we got it and I couldnt be happier.

Your fiance is right, whats meant to be is meant to be. I think about the houses we thought about buying before we got this one and Im so pleased we didnt get any of the others, because this is my perfect home!!

*Fingers crossed* for you!!  :)

Thanks everyone. Sorry about the "FI" thing. It's the term used on the wedding planning forum I am a member of. :)

It looks like we're in a bit of a bidding war. We've put in our final offer, but I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out the results. Honestly, I am not too worried about it right now. I haven't seen the house in person, so I haven't fallen in love with it. We do already have a house, if this falls through. We were just looking for a bigger house in a better neighborhood & catchment area. But it seems that even if we are in this better catchment area, it will not guarantee DD a place in the school. As a matter of fact, I think that with her coming in mid-year, in January, she will have just as much chance of getting into the school whether she's in or out of the catchment area. She will get in, if they have a place for her.

Anyway, we will see how it goes. :)
