Talk to me about Costco
« on: September 19, 2009, 07:32:56 PM »
Having just noted that there is a costco relatively near me, I'm curious as to their selection of American products. I've heard hints that it's pretty good, but can a member give a good run-down? Particularly looking at things outside the norm - I can get Oreos or marshmallow fluff (something you don't get on the West Coast, by the way) in a lot of places.

Also, how strict are they on memberships? I can always just get one sent to my US address, but I'd prefer the quicker route of applying in the UK.

Cheers.

Gosh, it's been a while but I do remember getting tortilla chips and salsa there. Also coffee (Seattle's Best??) They also sell all of their Kirkland brand items (shampoo, etc) We also found the best sundried tomatoes (from California!) in jars - addictive! I seem to remember getting a lot of condiments (mayo, mustard, etc) there too.

Sorry I'm not much help but I do know I definitely felt it was worth the cost of membership! (And they did seem pretty strict about that)

Also - not American food, but they had great deals on large packets of fresh (non frozen) chicken breasts and salmon. We used to buy them and divvy them up to freeze as they were a bargain compared to what we paid at the grocery.

If there was ever a thread where racheeee needs to post pronto, it's this one. :)
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I do love Costco...I go there a lot because its right next to my regular supermarket and imo it keeps me sane! I like to go in and imagine I can walk out to my parents local Costco in NY!  I don't know anything about membership because I got one from my parents years ago and we just keep renewing it. The kind of things that I like to buy (in large sizes) are Sourdough Pretzels, the quality of their meat is excellent, I like their sheet cakes for special occasions, their chicken is very good, I buy sponges, ziploc bags, american marshmallows, diet coke, I think Kirkland brand products are excellent quality, they have imo good deals on their electronics. Its worth getting a visitors pass if you can and having a look around, I think it costs like £30 a year (tbh I hve no idea because my husband pays for it!) but its worth it. Oh, the milk and eggs are really cheap also!

What about hot dogs? Obviously they can't import American ones, but I'd love to get something I don't have to go to a Jewish shop for..

Here is a photo of my gorgeous son eating a giant hot dog at Costco earlier this summer. Hysterics ensued

I took the photo down for privacy reasons.

I'm assuming that's the last time you took him to Costco in a black t-shirt, eh?

racheeee....so cute!  I love the look of total concentration. Hmmm, I may need to get a membership, if only for the hot dogs and red vines.  Mmmm.

oh how cute! What lovely hair he has rachee! :D

I really wanted a membership, and weirdly, they had a Costco day at my work where you could sign up for it,  so it may be worth checking with your employer :)
