how long have i lived in the UK? five years and four months (almost). my first day here was 4. july 2004 so AFAIC, that's my own personal Independence Day.

yesterday i bought 100 cigs (21,23£) of Sterling, one of the cheapest brands i can find cause i don't like rolling my own and i couldn't afford Marlboros after i moved here. i also picked up a bag of red grapes (2,79£/kilo), and a massive amount of Scottish Bute (like Cheddar but IMO, better) and Red Leicester cheeses (forgot how much they were). i only have sainsburys in walking distance and their prices freak me out but i've got no other choice.
i visit my family in NYC about once a year and that's when i buy most of my clothing (e.g., last week i paid 104$ for 2 pairs of TRIPP jeans i saw for 52£ each here). in fact, the only thing i don't like are the prices here.
on the other hand, i think the rent scheme's lovely (been paying the same rent since we got here). translated to NYC prices, we're paying less for a great flat here than i was for the horror i lived in back there (which, if i'd stayed, would be over 1300$/month now thanks to the yearly lease renewal=higher monthly rent).
