We did a five mile walk with the kids on Saturday that was really varied and fun - woods, hills, valleys, streams, two villages, and along a canal towpath.  It had a pretty steep grade in a couple places and it took us quite a while but we finished without getting overly tired or sore.  That's good news because we're hoping to build up our stamina so that when we do the Five Valleys Walk in September (21 miles in one day) we can finish the whole course.

Did anybody else have a good ramble over the weekend?

That sounds ambitious, Mrs Busby!  :)

We were planning to ramble yesterday, but I wasn't feeling quite up to scratch - sad because the weather was good for it.  Better now though.  DH might take this Friday off so we can make up the walk we wanted to do yesterday, this one.

Particularly as we're away to London next weekend for Mother's Day to spend with DH's family, and won't get a chance to ramble then - and we need to keep up with our training schedule.

Hey, there's all kinds of walking to be done in London.  Just don't take the bus or the tube and there you are.  :)

Oh I know.  I vastly prefer the countryside & crowd-free variety of rambling though.  ;)

I haz new boots - they're Karrimor brown leather mid height ones, and I actually got them in a men's size because it's wider and lots more comfortable.  I was chatting with the salesman about having wide feet, this & that, he had me try this boot on before he told me it was a man's boot.  I thought - wow, that feels pretty comfy.  [smiley=doh.gif]

Now if my left foot & ankle would just stop hurting & being bruised (from when I twisted it, walking in London weekend before last - walking in wedge heels, not boots), we can get out on the trails again.  :P

I sure don't.  It's mountainous there (Slovenia), I think?  We were looking at maybe doing a holiday there last year, but decided on Morocco instead.  Maybe someday.

I've been to Slovenia, but not to go hiking.  There is a route I'd like to do, it is a 12 part (about 4 days per part) trip and the first part is low level.  I'd just like a general idea because most of the website are, of course, in Slovenia and even google translator isn't helping all that much.  :)

Or:

This talks about maps:

When we went walking on our own in Spain (Las Alpujarras), we got a guidebook & a map.  HTH?

There must be a walking or travel blog out in cyberspace somewhere with opinions of Slovenian walking - if someone doesn't turn up on here.  :)

I'm afraid I've never been to Sovenia (wouldn't mind going though!) so I can't comment on that.

I wanted to say to Mrs R that I'm sorry to hear about your hurt foot/ankle!  Is it sprained?  Any idea how long it will take to heal?

I think so, yes.  It's not as bad as it could be because I can walk around & put my weight on it, etc - it just hurts.  It was swollen & pretty bruised for the first week.  I have read that depending on the severity of the sprain - it could be anywhere from 2 weeks up to 6 weeks!  The pain comes & goes and if I've been on my feet a lot is when it starts hurting more usually - which kind of interferes with walking a long distance.

It felt better today so here's hoping that continues.  I went to get a compression sock for it, but couldn't find one (the shops where I called in today anyway) - maybe I won't need it after all.  :)
