It was comforting when I encountered people who said things like, "Yes we've done lots of those walks (descriptions with bits of OS maps in books) and you do need a bit of imagination."
I knew it wasn't just me!

Definitely not just you.  :)

We went to a wedding last night and a friend there is planning to do the Camino in September.

So I guess we will have a million questions for him when he returns.

It is comforting to know.  :)  I'm planning my next one!  It also starts in Burnsall Bridge, but it goes to Appletreewick (another picturesque village) and back to Burnall again.

See I'm not sure it counts as proper rambling (although we did wear our boots), but we walked from our house to Kirkstall Abbey yesterday - just along the city streets to get there, then walked back along the Leeds-Liverpool canal on the way back home.  I thought it was about 4-5 miles all together & the last of it (on the way home) uphill - boy was I knackered!  And I thought - wow!  I'm really out of shape despite having walked about a 50 mile stretch (not all in one day) over a week in June.  :o

But DH just emailed that we actually walked about 6 miles yesterday all told, so that's a little better.  :)

I count stuff like that.  Walking is walking.   :)

I did a little bit of London-in-the-rain rambling last week.

Another section of the Norfolk Caost Path done, one more to go.

I bought some new shoes last week for barefoot running (not MBT thing these literally have an upper to encolse your foot and a flexiable Vibram bottom with no padding and a basically flat sole) and wore them for the hike.  They are supposed to train you to have a more natural footfall since most people hit with the heel first causing the impact to travel up your leg.

Not sure about all that, but they are really comfy, but I think it helped that I walk around barefoot whenever I can anyway.  According to the company you are only supposed to wear them for 10% of your exercise, but I had no problem with the six miles.

My in-laws have walked the Norfolk Wherryman's Way in pieces over time - they finished that this summer!  They live near Norwich.

Those shoes sound interesting, bookgrl!

It's the big new popular thing for running this year or whatever.   ;)

I got New Balance ones, but all every shoe company now makes them.  The Vibram brand has a separate pocket for each toe and I find that gross and think it would be uncomfortable.

Ah ok - I'm not a runner.  I think my feet, joints, etc would miss the padding/cushiony bit?

You should carry on from Norfolk Coast Path & do the Peddars Way too!  :)

Went on my second solo expedition up to the Yorkshire Dales.  My walk was to be from Kettlewell to Grassington.  About a third to halfway through I encountered a herd of cows on my path.  I couldn't go around them to the left (a limestone escarpment was there) and there was a wall on my right.  I had to turn back as they were all walking quickly toward me and I was scared.

Hubby later informed me that all I needed to do was to wave my arms and shout and they would have stopped coming at me.  Next time I'll know.  I was disappointed, but the weather was gorgeous and what scenery I did see was lovely.  Plus I had never been to Kettlewell before and it's very picturesque.

Weather was gorgeous today!

J and I went rambling along the shores of Loch Ness.  Awesome!

Wow, no-one has posted here since January!  I'm sure someone has gone rambling since then (on second thought, with the rubbish spring we've had (for the most part), maybe not!).

Anyway, yesterday hubby had loads of course-work to do, so I got the very convenient 800 bus up to the Yorkshire Dales.  The bus driver was new, it was his first day on the job.  He was super friendly, but made a couple wrong turns and two white-haired 'old dears' had to give him direction more than a few times.  Thank goodness they took that bus frequently and knew the way!  When he got to the narrow stone archway at Bolton Abbey he inched his way through it (we all held our breath!), and we came out the other end without a scratch.  Everyone applauded!

I did a 7 mile walk which started in Burnsall Bridge, took me up on the moors (where I ate my lunch in the company of sheep (they didn't run away from me!) and then down into a valley, past Trollers Gill and through the tiny hamlet of Skyrholme (next time I'll check out Parceval Hall Gardens which is located there) and through Apppletreewick, down to the river and back to Burnsall again.

The weather was sunny and a bit chilly, perfect for walking!  I met so many friendly people along the way, but there was also plenty of time with not a soul in sight as well. (Just sheep!)

The weather has been absolutely rubbish lately
So rather than gardening today, we donned our waterproofs and hiked a part of the Great Glen Way.  Was quite lovely.
