1 year ago I was 4 days away from moving to the UK.  I was living it up with my best friends and there are some memories from that week that I'll never forget.  :)

5 years ago I was starting at my 3rd and final undergrad university (I couldn't settle!).  It was then that I discovered Art History and I've never looked back!

10 years ago I was starting my sophomore year of high school and got my first job at a little gourmet deli.  Hopefully fate will smile upon me now and give me my first job in the UK!

1 year ago: Preparing to move to the UK, selling stuff/cleaning stuff/saying goodbye

5 years ago: Working a job I found boring, living with the parents, generally having my life be "on hold"

10 years ago: Sophomore in college, sick for the year with an annoying-but-not-serious illness, dating my first boyfriend for the year (which should've lasted a month ;))

This time last year I'd never met Mrs. Robinson, the one who started this thread, but now I have!  :)

Yay!  I get around, don't I?  :P ;) :D

Whew...having to reach back into the recesses of my memory banks this time around...

1 year ago - I was working where I am now, and we were excitedly planning DH's 40th birthday holiday trip in October to Andalucia in Spain (Malaga > Cadiz > Jerez > Seville > Ronda > home)!  :)  [this year, we are excitedly planning his 41st birthday holiday trip to Morocco (Marrakech > Ouirgane (over the Tizi-n-Test! eeek!) > Taroudant > Agadir > Essaouira > Marrakech > home) I put this now so I can remember it next year  :P)

5 years ago - DH and I had been married just over a year.  I was miserable working in a job for a pension administration company.  Still getting settled into life in the UK & feeling overwhelmed by it all.

10 years ago - Three years separated, but still legally married to my second (completely insane) husband (about to be legally divorced).  Living with my then- (now-ex) boyfriend in Tampa Bay, and working at a job I loved for a mutual fund company in St Petersburg.  Enjoying the weather and sunshine and beaches of south Florida - no idea or inclination that I'd ever end up in northern England!  DH completely unknown to me back then.

What a difference 10 years makes!  :o

Struggling with getting everything ready with the Registrar and arranging stuff for our wedding. I didn't know about this forum, I was on another one, and you had to pay a fee to communicate on it properly. So, I just kind of went blindly thru things. Oh well, live and learn. I stayed in the house mainly, because of the bad weather, and because I wasn't allowed to work yet, so I wanted to hold on to as much of my own money as I could, and I didn't want to spend DH's money if I could help it.

10 years ago, I was living in San Diego, getting ready to move to Chicago. I'd fallen out with my dad for a bit, and moved to get away from the bad atmosphere in San Diego. DH and I were still writing letters and some times emails to each other, when I was able to have computer access.

One year ago (to the day) I arrived in London and was incredibly jet-lagged!

5 years ago I was trying to break up with a creepy boyfriend-turned-stalker.

10 years ago I was twelve and probably thought I would have my life all sorted out by this point in time. Ohhh how naive.  :P

:)

One  year ago today I was stressing over the Life the the UK test and studying more than I have studied for years for it.  (I ended up passing with flying colours!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] )

Five years ago today I was in the middle or so of my month long trip to Ireland and hugely in love / obsessed with a tall, blond, gorgeous fiddler and thinking of ways to return next year and stay even longer (I did return, stayed all summer, ditched the fiddler and met my now hubby.  [smiley=smitten.gif] )

10 years ago today I was happily married to my first husband (before it all went wrong) for about a year, and living in a big rambling Victorian house ( which was converted to three apartments) with our big fat tabby cat Poochie.  (The house has been torn down to make condos  >:( and Poochie is now in cat heaven  :( .)
Met husband-to-be in Ireland July 2006
Married October 2007
Became a British citizen 21 July 2011
Separated from husband August 2014
Off on an Irish adventure October 2014

1 year ago I was preparing to move out of my lovely flat in Bristol and back to my parents house, so I could save my money to go travelling in South America this year.

5 years ago, I had just graduated from university and was trying to decide whether to accept a PhD place in Condensed Matter Physics at Durham University... I turned it down and then started applying for masters courses in Earth Science instead (I was also working at Boots for the year to earn money to pay for the masters).

10 years ago, I was starting my second year of Sixth Form (A levels). I was trying to decide which university courses to apply for and also writing my personal statement for the application (I was applying to Oxford so I had to get my UCAS application form submitted by mid-October).

1 year ago I had just found out we were having twins. I just got back from a wedding down in Dorset. Beautiful time.

5 years ago we were saving like mad to buy a house. Living in a crappy part of town. I had just started a new job that year and was loving it.

10 years ago my grandfather had just passed away and we were dealing with that. I hadn't realised this until my father mentioned it this past week. Gosh I miss him.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

2 years ago I was in Amelia Island, Florida. On this day we went to the courthouse for our marriage license for the following day!  ;D
