Gift Ideas for UK relatives
« on: October 01, 2009, 06:32:56 PM »
I'm the USC who has moved back to the US, and waiting for DH to join me.  I want to send something "American" to my in-laws in Ireland, but not sure what.  Must consider shipping costs as well.  Last year I found New England tea and sent some Christmas dish towels (not very exciting), but it was light weight.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

My parents came over to visit us in Ireland and brought my in laws Snyder of Hanover pretzels and a local mustard for dipping. I know, not very exciting, but my FIL loved it (I was very jealous!). My mom gave my MIL a small quilt made in Lancaster, PA since it's close to wear they live. My aunt and uncle brought some peanuts and pralines from North Carolina. Again, I was very jealous.  :P  What about some locally made chutneys or sauces? There are lots of locally made things here, but it's been my experience that my ILs don't purchase them, so they would still consider it a treat.

Thanks, Bmore.  Good suggestions and I will have to look into what's made in Connecticut now that all the autumn fairs are kicking off.  (I meant to say that this is for Christmas as well.)

Hi geeta,

It is so tough.  What does Connecticut have that's special or unique???  I'm really drawing a blank.  Would have been good to go to the Big E's Connecticut building, but no time for that this year unfortunately.

Not a clue what's unique about here.  :-\\\\  Um, we have the Basketball Hall of Fame?  We're the 3rd smallest state?  I'm really grasping here. :-\\\\

I found this site:

http://www.theconnecticutstore.com/

I'm sure my in-laws would love a case of Wiffle Balls or the Tuna-Mate!

Or some UConn Huskies sweatshirts....but I don't think my sister-in-law and mother-in-law would especially like that!   ???

Wiffle ball!!  Haaaaaaaaa that's funny!  Yep, we're kind of out of luck, I think.  No one would get what the Huskies sweatshirt would mean in my family.  Oh well.  :P

Isn't the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield?

What about something from Mystic Seaport?
Maroon Passport Club!

:-[  Yes.  But it's so close to us!  Just across the border!  We can see it from our front porch!  ;D

Mystic is a good idea.  :)

Maple syrup?? For some reason that popped into my head when I thought about Connecticut. My grandparents used to live there and always brought down this one type of pure maple syrup made in CT when they visited (we live in VA).

Yes, maple syrup is a good one.  I think most are made in Vermont and Massachusetts, but at least it's from New England!

I also thought of maple syrup but they don't seem to be big pancake and waffle eaters.  Mystic is a good idea......something nautical.  I'll check it out.

Cheers.
