Haven't tried it but would imagine it would be really nice. Jam and bacon on a biscuit is fantastic as is hog jowls and maple syrup (think full pancake breakfast on the same plate).

EEEWWW, no!
I wouldn't mix sweet with salty/smoky!

Oh meant to say, welcome back Bob... long time no see.

Made the sausage & biscuits this morning - YUM!  No cream gravy this time, as we forgot to buy milk (d'oh!) but still very very good. :)

Those are some fine looking biscuits, Meg. Are they from scratch? Mine always look gnarly and lumpy.

Why, thank you!  Yep, from scratch - using the HomesickTexan's recipe, here, which calls for beating the dough.  Not something I've tried before, but it works!  Folding the dough in half before cutting out results in biscuits which split perfectly in half for buttering purposes, too. :)

I subbed in a tablespoon of sugar, instead of the teaspoon called for - I like my biscuits a bit sweeter, to balance the buttermilk - and mine were done in 13 minutes, rather than 15, so I'd keep an eye on them.

ahhh I can't wait to make some of my southern favorites for Hubby. :) It's exciting to be able to share tings that I grew up on with him.

Meg, those have to be some of the prettiest biscuits I have ever seen! :)

OMG, thanks for posting this Jewlz!  Was just thinking to look up a recipe for breakfast sausage - it sounds fab!  Will just need to check what I need to buy and do it.   ;D  The other foodies look good too!

Meg, those look perfect! Soooo yummy lookin!

My husband has never had biscuits and gravy when he has been to the States to visit, but I will be going to England for the summer and I will definitely try these recipes while I'm there  ;). I have made migas for him and he liked them as well as chilaquiles.

Thanks for sharing, Jewlz!

Homesick Texan Recipe looks ok but she is missing what helps them rise:

2 cups flour (sifted 3 times better yet use cake flour)
2 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda

6 tablespoons butter room temperature

3/4 cups buttermilk

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

sift dry ingredients together 3 times then cut in the butter (I use a pastry cutter but you can do it with a fork or 2 knives)

add buttermilk

mix together then place on a floured wooden board and knead until a soft dough is  formed, not too wet it should be smooth try to knead as little as possible

pat out to the thickness of your liking and use a biscuit cutter if one is not available you can use cookie cutters in various shapes (I do not beat my biscuits either as recommended in the other recipe, the less you handle them the better and the higher they will rise)

Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes my oven cooks hot so I bake them at 350 or the bottom gets too brown

You can brush with milk or butter before baking if you prefer

I do not add sugar to my biscuits because to me that would be a scone not a biscuit

I will post a pic next time a bake a batch

I was ribbing you about the giant paint brush....but old cast iron is great. It actually takes a while to get one seasoned/aged like that.

It takes far longer to get one like that if your husband keeps washing yours with soap, or leaving it in the sink with water in it so it gets rusty and has to be scrubbed. Grrr.  >:(
