oh my gosh... that's hilarious that you posted something on this. my hubby went to selfridge's yesterday and saw this in the american food section. i had never heard of it (but i guess anything doing with bacon and mayo has to be passed off as american... haha)

luckily he didn't buy any.... i'm not sure if i'm ready for that one yet.... i'm still sickened by the thought of salad cream.... hahahaha.

Ugh...I made the mistake of eating this on my salad for my first meal in England (expecting it to taste similiar to ranch dressing)...I am now scarred for life.

I'm a big fan of bacon and mayo but I just don't know about this. I just got brave enough to try the mayo made with olive oil...now I'm in love with it and afraid I won't be able to find it over there.

I never tried it but it sounds like kitties and puppies in one jar: double the perfection, in other words. :)
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Yeah I'm just not too sure about this one still....

And I really really really detest salad cream. Yeah I tried it also thinking it would be like ranch. Big mistake.

FYI - I have been able to find the mayo with olive oil in the larger grocery stores here in Sheffield.

Not sure why you guys would assume it was ranch?
But surely it's the same as Miracle Whip? Tastes the same to me, anyway!

I guess there are different brands of salad cream but the stuff I had was nothing at all like Miracle Whip. It was yellowish, very thick and it was very acidic/vinegary. And why would we not assume it was similar to ranch? For an American who has never even heard of salad cream, ranch is the closest salad dressing it resembles...so assuming it would be similar is probably very common...until after you taste it...YUCK!

YAY...this makes me extremely happy!!

ive had many a nights with baconnaise and chips surprised they are selling that there.

on a side note i think bacon salt is the spin off of that-because they claim everything should taste like bacon
http://www.baconsalt.com/

its actually tasty on popcorn if you give it a go

salad cream doesn't look like / resemble ranch dressing *to me*.
No flecks/speckles of herbs, for a start! :)

It looks nothing like salad cream! If anything, you might expect it to taste more mayonnaise-y. I actually love salad cream with every fibre of my being! It's a guilty pleasure!

(I don't think it tastes like Miracle Whip either, tbt. Miracle Whip has a nasty sugary thing going on.) :P

Haven't we already had a thread about Baconnaise somewhere? This is all starting to sound eerily familiar!

******************

ETA: I found it! It wasn't its own thread, but it was mentioned in this pretzel thread. I knew there was no way I'd forget something called Baconnaise! :P

I have to admit, baconnaise sounds kind of good to me.
Do we have it here?

If you Google 'Baconnaise UK' it says it's coming soon to Selfridge's. Sounds like an odd place for it. But I suspect Tesco, et al won't be far behind!

Oh, and I know what I'm getting you for Christmas. :P
