Wouldn't bacon flavoured mayo just be very, very salty? I don't think I fancy it. We bought some lime flavoured mayonnaise once and I couldn't taste the lime at all.

Ugh...I made the mistake of eating this on my salad for my first meal in England (expecting it to taste similiar to ranch dressing)...I am now scarred for life.

The clue is in the name! In the UK, we call ranch dressing ranch dressing!!  :D

Baconnaise sounds ok...I think I will give it a try if I can find some at the grocery...but bacon flavored salt...ummmmm...........

What's up? :D I use Maldon smoked sea salt all the time, it's gorgeous, especially on steaks and used as seasoning in chilli. Sounds like bacon flavoured will be very similar, only issue with me would be the quality of the salt and if the flavour is artificial.

on a side note i think bacon salt is the spin off of that-because they claim everything should taste like bacon
http://www.baconsalt.com/

I read somewhere that Baconnaise is very expensive to order in the UK, so it's cheaper to just add the bacon salt to ordinary mayonnaise.

Frankly, I don't think I'll be trying either of them!  :P

Yup! We're sneaky that way!   ;)

Juts make sure if you're asking for Baconnaise in a supermarket they don't think you mean Beconase. That definitely would not taste good on a salad.

Yeah I saw regular ranch dressing that at the grocery store later that week.  The thing of the whole situation is that I had just walked in the door for my first visit to England...ever.  I had been travelling for 32 hours...literally...it took me 32 hours from my front door to his front door.  I was so hungry I would've eaten a scabby donkey.  So his mum (bless her soul!) knew I was on a diet and how much I loved salad...she made me a big ole salad and put it in front of me.  Through my bloodshot eyes, I asked ever so politely "Can I have some salad dressing?"  Thus appeared the bottle of salad cream which I promptly smoothered all over my delicious salad.  Ugh.  At that point in time, ranch dressing was the closest thing I could imagine it would taste like.  Yes, it looked different (i.e. it wasn't white and it didn't have the herb flecks in it) which is why I thought it would taste similar to ranch, not exactly like ranch or anything.  The fact of the matter was that no one in his family ever eats salad so they actually didn't have any salad dressing and that was the closest thing they could think of to give me.  I found out after the fact that they use it for sandwiches, which makes more sense to me anyway.  Actually, now that I think about it...I probably wouldn't mind that on a sandwich...

yes, it is nice on a sandwich, and it's also nice with salad, but you just put a dollop of it on the plate and lightly dip your salad in it one bite at a time... definitely don't slather it all over the salad!

We live and learn, eh!

No no no, something about this Baconnaise just sounds wrong to me. Although their motto that "everything should taste like bacon" cracks me up.

And I'm not a fan of salad cream either. Makes me gip. It's why I get Hidden Valley Ranch dry packets everytime I go back to the US. With the exception of oil and vinegar, it's the only salad dressing I'll use.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.

I love Salad Cream.  :) I usually just eat it on sandwiches, though, not salads. It's nice and tangy. I don't like Miracle Whip at all, and I thought Salad Cream would be like that when my DH described it to me, but it really just tastes a bit like mayo and mustard mixed together. It's also perfect for things like egg salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, and any other recipes where you would use both mustard and mayo.

Ok, I'll give Salad Cream a try on sandwiches... but it's definitely staying off my salad.  And my husband also said it's great on potatoes... and eggs.... and still not sure of that one.....Since this is the man that served me Kippers and Eggs on afternoon....

I prefer HP brown sauce as a condiment, in general, for bacon sandwiches, eggs, chips, and that sort of thing. Salad cream is nice on a ham and cheese sandwich with a bit of lettuce and tomato or something like that, though. Also, like I said, you could make egg salad with it, and that would be nice, too. If I have used it on salad, then like Q-G says, I've only used a tiny bit - a little goes a long way with Salad Cream.  :)

I want to try it now. :P I like dipping french fries in mayo. So bacon flavored mayo sounds kind of good. [smiley=blush.gif]

Re: Baconnaise: Bacon Flavored Mayo - BaconSalt!

Baconnaise is 'intermittently' available in a couple of places (try American Sweets) but even "local" shipping can be pricey -  you can always get the original J&D's BaconSalt (pleeze don't call it "bacon salt"!) from newcomer link: http://www.crazy4flavour.co.uk [nonactive] by mail order (prices include postage!)

Suggestion - Take a jar of "supermarket Brand" Mayo (whichever one you prefer ;) ) and add BaconSalt to taste - MUCH cheaper, and Customized!

Love it
;D
