If he cancels the card without attempting to settle the account he could be charged under section 3 of the Theft Act 1978 the maximum penalty for which is 2 years imprisonment.  I'm just stating the law.

Actually, yes I am  a lawyer. If it would make you feel more confident in my advice, I can charge you for it. £150 please. Cash only of course.

What are you on about?  I think it's pretty easy...the question originally posed, which you've not yet answered, is are you, or are you not, trying to evade paying for a taxi ride that you did take?
