WHW is correct about Health in Pregnancy - YOU have to apply but your eligibility is because your husband is British, if that makes sense?  Anyway you can't get that one until you're 25 weeks and it's via a form from your midwife.

Basically once your GP refers you to your local midwives, you'll get a 'booking-in' appointment that happens around 8-12wks.  You'll also get referred to your local hospital for a nuchal scan, which is to test for risk of Down's Syndrome & other things.  This ultrasound happens between weeks 11-14, but you don't HAVE to have the tests if you choose not to.  Most PCTs offer this first scan plus another scan at 20 weeks.

Another great thing is your midwife will give you a form to send off to get your maternity exemption card which entitles you to free prescriptions & dental care!

Good luck!

Congrats!

You won't get a Maternity Form (MATB1) until you are 20 weeks pregnant. Your GP will most likely NOT confirm your pregnancy through any tests, they will take your word for it and you won't see another doctor or healthcare professional until you go for your booking in appointment (done anywhere between 12 & 14 weeks) after that you will have a blood test at something like 16 weeks for AFP (I have mine today at 19 weeks, go figure) and after that you will have a 20 week anatomy scan (where they can do the gender test if you so fancy) and at 28 weeks you will start to see your community midwife every fortnight or so.

Its pretty hands off in the UK, which I love.

Some trusts no longer do the AFP.  The one where I had my last child did a nuchal scan and bloods at 11-13 weeks instead.

Also, some trusts will no longer tell you the baby's gender at the 20 week scan.

Thanks for all the information. I am glad its mostly hands off, but its good to know what is going to be happening. Hopefully everything goes smooth these first 3 months!

Guess its a good thing I don't want to know the gender anyway :D

I'm glad to hear that! I need a dental check up.
