I think that's not a strict rule for doctoral degrees other than an MD.

Technically in the UK it is only PhD who have the right to be called Dr, for MDs it is an honorific; surgeons and consultants revert to Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms for some odd reason. In the US PhD holders and MDs are fully entitled to use Dr.  I don't see why someone wouldn't want to use Dr when they're entitled to it! I switched lots of things when I passed my viva!

What does 'Miss' have to do with education, though?

It doesn't. What I'm saying is that I like getting my proper title, but some online forms don't give the Dr option though, so since I'm not married I usually choose Miss.

Yes, I hated being called, 'Miss Kim' by my friend's kids or kids I was babysitting.

My mother's name is Lynn, and all my friends called her Miss Lynn, but it was terribly confusing, because our art teacher was called Mrs Glenn, and seeing as how Miss and Mrs sound pretty much the same in the South.... ;D  My dad's name is Roger, and when I was little, most of my friends would get confused and call him Mr Rogers instead!

Wow, having been busy all evening and just got back here to find that you Misses are more "worked up about it" than we Ms women ever were.

Nobody is "seriously" "worked up" about anything. Geez, lighten up ladies. I do find it offensive and belittling as it suits a teenage girl more than a woman with history, but I think I distinctly remember saying in my first post or two about this, something along the lines of "It doesn't ruin my day".....?

And it doesn't. I think you guys just like to imagine someone on here being terribly upset by your little bits of fun and games. Wow, time to grow up Miss Little Ladies.  ;D

Um....seriously, I don't get where this vitriol comes from.  No one is 'terribly upset' nor 'worked up' by anything.  No one is trying to snark at you, nor say you're wrong to prefer Ms rather than Miss, nor trying to make fun of you.  I'm sure you noticed (as you said you came back and found all these posts) that many people have preferred different things and no one seems to care one way or another.  Seriously, if anyone should lighten up around here.... ::)

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I think there are too many deserving candidates on here for that title!

LOL!!!

I love how the 'Misses' are being attacked for getting worked up, when if you have a look you'll see that someone people chose Miss, some Mrs, some Ms, one Master (!), a few Mistresses, etc.!

Anyone else? We don't have any Drs yet!
