HULU?!
« on: October 09, 2009, 12:47:47 PM »
So I was watching my new favorite TV show last night, Glee, and started to wonder...  Is  there a way I'll be able to continue watching this after I move in 2 weeks?

Is there a UK equivalent to Hulu? Or a way to get around the block so I can just watch Hulu?

Thanks! :)

Good news, Glee has been picked up by E4 in the UK and its starting in the new year.

You could always download it, however I'm not going to be condoning that kind of behavior!!!

I love this show!  I'm excited it's getting picked up in the UK, so I can spread the word about how much fun it is. I also covet Emma's outfits.

You can access hulu from the UK by "bouncing" off a US IP address. It's free, not sure of the legalities of it, but if there is an interest in doing it I can write up a guide on the how to's a bit later today.

Navie, that would be great! I know internet basics... and I knew it was possible to access but wasn't sure how.  Thanks!

You can get around the Hulu block by using an IP changer like Hotspot Shield, but I found it lagged and stuttered too much to be worth it.

If you use Firefox, you could try using the ad-on Foxy Proxy.  There might even be an add-on for Hulu.

OK, checked with the hubby, apparently we pay 10USD a month for this service, which I wasn't aware of.  But we use it for online gaming, as we had no end of troubles getting Aion's US version to play in the UK (as we wanted to play with our guildmates)

The service is called Virtual Private Networking (VPN).

You need to find a company that provides the service.  It costs about 10 USD per month. - you can use google to find a provider of this service.

You get an IP / USERNAME / PASSWORD

You then connect using the windows VPN service- you would do this from your internet/network options located in the system tray once you have it setup You can then toggle it on and off.

You then assume the IP of the network in the USA and you can view USA specific content.  ie hulu.

Granted it costs a monthly subscription, but you dont experience the lag as Stoatula described with the free services available.

I was just complaining to hubby last night that I'll have to watch a lot of 'tv' on the computer...like my American football games...the last season of Lost...I am *not* looking forward to that!

Lost is usually broadcast on Sky One in the UK only about 4 days after it airs in the US, so if you have digital/satellite TV in the UK, you won't need to watch it on the computer, it'll be on TV :).

Similarly with other shows - House Season 6 just started here last week, we've already seen 2 episodes of FlashForward on channel 5 and we're only a week behind Dancing with the Stars :). Also last year, shows like Heroes, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break and 24 were also aired in the UK within a week or so of being shown in the US.

Be aware though that if you are not physically present in the US, you will not be able to watch US TV online via the network websites - the sites can detect where you are through your IP address and you will only be able to watch them if you are within the US (unless you manage to use a US IP address via proxy/VPN).

The only problem with that is everyone I know in the US is obsessed with Lost (like me) so I'd have to avoid Facebook for 5 days every week in order to avoid over 200 people posting spoilers.  :(

This is why I love YouTube.

Not sure why you'd say this as YouTube does this too.

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"
