I grew up in Altus, Oklahoma, nowheresville, hehe. Actually its an AFB and I loved it even though it was a dust bowl. Who needs trees when you have tumbleweed I say
If your not sure where it is, its near the border of Texas, a place called Vernon. Basically not too far from Dallas. I remember always going through there when we went back to GA for summers.
So where in OK are you from and do you enjoy it? My money is going on you being from the northern part where they have such things as trees and green grass, hehe.
Oh I just thought of something, Quartz Mountain & the Wildlife Refuge. So you ever been there? They would have rattlesnake festivals at Quartz Mountain. Such good times.
I have to admit, Altus seems desolate, especially when we used to drive there as a kid to visit my great grandparents. My dad's grandparents were cotton farmers in Eldorado, which is very close to Altus. In it's defense it's unique in some ways too. I could see the Red River (valley) from my grandma's back yard...it was kida cool.

Speaking of dustbowl, most of my relatives were farmers during the dust bowl era. They all headed to central Oklahoma and California during the late 20s; some of them are in the Northeast, Florida, Canada even. I don't know how deeply they were effected though. My mom lived in Sweetwater, TX as a kid and I think the dustbowl was still happening there in 1955! LOL...Sorry, Texas.
Anyway, I ramble. I live in the Edmond/Guthrie area. Guthrie is central but east of I-35 where the hills start rolling as you head east to Tulsa. It has lots of trees and stays fairly green (But I never really
saw the color green until I visited Scotland. Wow...I didn't know the color green could almost be blinding...LOL). Actually, I do like it here. Its warm, but has definite seasons. It's relatively green. It could be worse! Plus, my hometown has the greatest number of historically registered buildings in the US, so it's full of beautiful old houses. It's very pretty, but also run down in areas.

I will miss it when we move, though.
Back to the Halloween topic. We have haunted tours here in my home town. Tourist visit the jail and old hospital. Lots of EVP ghost tours and all that. I can't believe there aren't many in Britain. I do know in Scotland there are plenty of haunted places, and everyone tried to get me to go to Mary King's Close. NO thanks, I don't want to feel a ghost scratching at my feet or touching me in anyway...I'm such a fraidy!
Costume crisis solved. Thanks for all your bubble costume ideas. I finally conviced my 3 yo to be something that doesn't involve plastic! He will now be James the red engine from Thomas.

Whew!
Cross-posting with the Texans...Sorry guys.
