PS does anyone know of any Haunted Houses about in Northwestern England??  Or have I left that back home in Texas as well  :(

Well, I'm in the Northeast, and there aren't any around here. (Also, I'm a Texan, too!  [smiley=cowboy.gif]) Seems a shame, but then, there are plenty of creepy old castles to go and see! Chillingham Castle is popular during Halloween, as it's said to be the most haunted castle in England. That doesn't do you much good in the Northwest, but maybe there is something around your area, if you think about it hard enough.

Now that's given me an idea for a costume. Naw, on 2nd thought maybe not such a good idea. He might not see the funny side in 20 years and seeing as he'll probably be the one choosing my old folks home...
I have an idea, well it isnt mine, got it from a show. The mother in the show was gum stuck under a chair. All you need a fake chair and a pink jumpsuit, there was another name for them in the 80s and I cant think of it.  ???

I grew up in Altus, Oklahoma, nowheresville, hehe. Actually its an AFB and I loved it even though it was a dust bowl. Who needs trees when you have tumbleweed I say ;D

If your not sure where it is, its near the border of Texas, a place called Vernon. Basically not too far from Dallas. I remember always going through there when we went back to GA for summers.

So where in OK are you from and do you enjoy it? My money is going on you being from the northern part where they have such things as trees and green grass, hehe.

Oh I just thought of something, Quartz Mountain & the Wildlife Refuge. So you ever been there? They would have rattlesnake festivals at Quartz Mountain. Such good times.

I have to admit, Altus seems desolate, especially when we used to drive there as a kid to visit my great grandparents.  My dad's grandparents were cotton farmers in Eldorado, which is very close to Altus.  In it's defense it's unique in some ways too.  I could see the Red River (valley) from my grandma's back yard...it was kida cool.    ;)

Speaking of dustbowl,  most of my relatives were farmers during the dust bowl era.  They all headed to central Oklahoma and California during the late 20s; some of them are in the Northeast, Florida, Canada even.  I don't know how deeply they were effected though.  My mom lived in Sweetwater, TX as a kid and I think the dustbowl was still happening there in 1955! LOL...Sorry, Texas.

Anyway, I ramble. I live in the Edmond/Guthrie area.  Guthrie is central but east of I-35 where the hills start rolling as you head east to Tulsa.  It has lots of trees and stays fairly green (But I never really saw the color green until I visited Scotland. Wow...I didn't know the color green could almost be blinding...LOL). Actually, I do like it here.  Its warm, but has definite seasons.  It's relatively green.  It could be worse!  Plus, my hometown has the greatest number of historically registered buildings in the US, so it's full of beautiful old houses.  It's very pretty, but also run down in areas.  :(   I will miss it when we move, though.

Back to the Halloween topic.  We  have haunted tours here in my home town.  Tourist visit the jail and old hospital.  Lots of EVP ghost tours and all that.  I can't believe there aren't many in Britain.  I do know in Scotland there are plenty of haunted places, and everyone tried to get me to go to Mary King's Close.  NO thanks, I don't want to feel a ghost scratching at my feet or touching me in anyway...I'm such a fraidy!

Costume crisis solved.  Thanks for all your bubble costume ideas.  I finally conviced my 3 yo to be something that doesn't involve plastic!  He will now be James the red engine from Thomas.  ;D  Whew!

Cross-posting with the Texans...Sorry guys.

I've been to Amarillo a few times, on my way through to Lubbock to visit my ex-bf's sister. I'm from Dallas.

You're close enough to count neighbour!  ;) Plus we have the same nickname!  :P Also, juliebug, I briefly lived in Hugo, if you know where that is. It's near Durant, I believe.

So since Halloween (and obviously Thanksgiving) are not widely celebrated or that popular in the UK, I'm assuming the possibility of finding decorations is fairly low.  Are there any websites that you can order "American" holiday decorations and have things delivered in the UK?  Or is this something I'll have to coordinate with my US fam to ship to me?

Try here....DW used these for decorations (bunting, flags, paper plates) for our July 4th party, they seem to have quite a bit of Halloween stuff. DW seems to have brought quite a bit of that with her but she did pick some stuff up in town last week (at Wilkinsons I think), also Asda seemed to have a bit.

I emigrated to the UK on 31 October 1985... I remember arriving in Glasgow Central Station and seeing 1 guy, dressed as Superman.  I recall thinking that was weird, because i'd been travelling for a couple of days and had forgotten it was Halloween.
I wouldn't have made the connection anyway. Not a big fan of halloween anyway but I hate how any fancy dress seems ok! To me it should be in theme (dracula, ghost, witch etc)

That is a typical British sentiment...that it has to be scary to be a Halloween costume.  Not so!  Halloween costumes just have to be costumes is all.  :)

But a policeman can be very scary. So should meet with the conventionalists approval.  ;)
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

It is definitely no mans land, but I was a kid at the time and thought it was the best. I knew it was lacking. When going back to GA in the summers after you get past Texas things go green.

It is great in the UK I have some really great pics of the midlands and of Wales. So when do you plan to make your move across the pond? We head out around the second week of December.

As far as Halloween this year Im thinking of going to this place called Wild Adventures. Its in Valdosta, GA. Its a park like Six Flags but I believe they have animals. Never been so it should be good. I hear they go all out for Halloween. A link if anyone wants a looksy.
