Fellow Okie here.  Where did you grow up?
I'm not an Okie but I spent a whole year there in Midwest City. Dad was at Tinker. All I remember was the Indian resevations and a tornado. May have only been a year but that was, at that time, 1/5 of my entire life!)

I have noticed a decline too.  It's a lot of fear mongering from the media.  The days of neighborhood trick-or-treating are over.  I live in Guthrie, and our whole town turns out for candy downtown and then the kids go door to door.  It still has a small town, close feel, which is nice for the kids.  I just can't take them to the mall to trick or treat or one of those $5/person in a park where the kids only get 20 pc. of candy, which seems to be the current trend.
We had that media scare-mongering when I was young. Mainly revolved around apples and blades. So we never kept them but I never met anyone that got a 'bad' apple. Mall treating? $5 trick-or-treat parks? I can sort of see that but no thanks think I'd run a mile. Def not my cup of tea.

Oh and your boy, a bubble? Sounds ace but challanging! But if he don't dress, I'd take him anyway. I'd take a mask or something that you can slap on at the last minute, just in case he changes his mind, but then again a child would never do that, would they?

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

I know...It can be a pain for something that should be fun!!  I am having problems with my 3-year old dressing up.  The baby is going to be a monkey which is pretty fitting for him right now.  The oldest is going to be Luke Skywalker (I insisted- my favorite movie).  My three year old wants to be a bubble.  I have a left over Buzz Lightyear costume and tried it on him.  He freaked out and started screaming and kicking.  I have no idea what I'm going to do with him.  If he doesn't dress up do I take him anyway?  I hate to be mean, but this may be our last halloween here and I want the kids to have fun.  :-\\\\

I would get a huge clear plastic garbage bag and fill it with other clear plastic bags so it sticks out and is round.  Cut some legs holes and maybe use clear packing tape to secure it around his armpits/chest?

I'd also use the clear garbage bag but I'd get translucent balloons to fill it with.  :D

Hahahahaha, actually I had the thought because of a costume a friend did when we were weeeeeee girls.  Her mom did a plastic garbage bag and filled it with multi colored balloons-

she was jelly beans.

I'd also maybe put some iridescent tissue paper on the inside of the bag to give it some color. It'll make it look like a bubble that has light hitting it.

Fellow Okie here.  Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Altus, Oklahoma, nowheresville, hehe. Actually its an AFB and I loved it even though it was a dust bowl. Who needs trees when you have tumbleweed I say ;D

If your not sure where it is, its near the border of Texas, a place called Vernon. Basically not too far from Dallas. I remember always going through there when we went back to GA for summers.

So where in OK are you from and do you enjoy it? My money is going on you being from the northern part where they have such things as trees and green grass, hehe.

Oh I just thought of something, Quartz Mountain & the Wildlife Refuge. So you ever been there? They would have rattlesnake festivals at Quartz Mountain. Such good times.

I was there as a kid but a bit longer and at Altus AFB instead. I remember the reservations as well and lived through many tornados. My mom was a freak during bad weather. They would drag us out of bed and get us in the car. Instead of chasing tornados, the cool thing to do now, we would run the opposite direction. I remember they would listen to the radio and wait it out. Also everytime, I swear, the song the tutu song would come on.

Enjoy [smiley=guitarist.gif] [smiley=inquisitive.gif] [smiley=laugh3.gif]

Now that's given me an idea for a costume. Naw, on 2nd thought maybe not such a good idea. He might not see the funny side in 20 years and seeing as he'll probably be the one choosing my old folks home...

woah! thats a horrible story!! anyway... who would shoot a 75 year old man?!?! gives me the heebeegeebees!!

On a lighter note, I've only just seen this post, as I have been poorly! I love halloween and I am very much disappointed that it's not such a big thing over here.  The pub that I work at has an annual Halloween party that is the best around! (which i can't wait for!!) And I decorate my apartment with skull lights and me and my husband are having a pumpkin carving contest this year haha! it should be great!!

One thing I don't like though... going out into town on Halloween... it was well scary last year!! I just don't like going drinking in towns when its a holiday of some type...especially Preston!!!
