This thread makes me feel so much better! My husband makes 18k per year plus 2k in bonuses. I'll make around 14k to start and I should have regular raises every 6 months. We're in Aberdeen, though, where the living expenses are quite high, but I think we'll be okay.

Lexington--what is your job?! I'd love to make that much, haha.

I'd like to chime in that, if you live in an area that has buses and/or other public transit, and can commute with those, you can probably save a lot of money compared to owning/leasing a car, even if you end up taking taxis 2 or 3 times a week. Cars are expensive.

Apologies for resurrecting an old topic, but I just wanted to say that I've been in the UK for over a year now and DtM's estimates were pretty much on point! So if anyone has a similar question on living expenses, please refer to DtM's post - prices have not changed significantly since then (considering 2-3% inflation rate).

Hi

Nice to see you confirm I was independently very close to real world figures as you've experienced!

Due to inflation, currency fluctuations, political level changes and the whole economic scenario in constant flux and currently even more so with the current economic climate issues, various aspects of daily living have been impacted further or more than others.

Hope you've had a good experience of the UK so far !

Cheers, DtM!
