LOL...

I'm still trying to get over having groceries delivered...I wonder if they do that in the tiny village I'm moving to?  Sounds like fun...

If I recall you're going to Wakefield, you'll have no problem - both Tesco and Asda will probably deliver, I found out last week that Ocado have started delivery to my area as well - so that £20 voucher I got will come in handy!

Thinking that someone is the same as everyone else just because of the question they ask, isn't that a bit judgemental?  Like a lot of people on this board, I get asked the same questions all the time; but, I just let it roll off my back.  It is part of being an ex-pat.  Although, you did say that you don't like being questioned about yourself, which is fair enough.  We all have different levels of comfort and that is okay.  It is what makes life so interesting.  However, immediately judging someone based on the question "Where are you from?" is a bit odd.  That person could be wildly interesting; but, uses a tried and true method of breaking the ice.  I am not trying to be rude here but rather point out something that is food for thought.

I agree with this. When I chat with someone at the supermarket checkout, I'm not going to tell them about my voice training, or the websites I've worked on or what I studied in university. I'm going to ask  them a banal question to get the conversation going without them thinking I'm a nutter.

There is a lot of discussion about stereotypes on the board - why stereotype someone as being boring based on a couple of minutes of polite conversation.
