NHS Consultant Pension Scheme--US Tax Implications?
« on: October 20, 2009, 02:32:20 AM »
I am joining NHS Scotland as a physician, and it's possible I may stay long enough to qualify for a pension.

Being that a NHS pension would be a payment from the UK government (i.e., not from an investment instrument such as a mutual fund, IRA, etc.), how would US tax law apply to payments of my NHS pension, once I start receiving payments?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi

I realize this reply is off topic, but I saw that you are a US physician attempting to practice in the UK.  I am a recently board certified Internist and my family is contemplating relocation to London for my wife's job.  I'd be very interested to hear about your certification process and any advice you might have for someone about to embark on a similar journey.  Did it really take PMETB 18 months to approve your CESR (or CEGPR)?  What is the job market like for US trained physicians?

Best Wishes,

-Brian
