I'm just curious. As a Canadian schoolchild, I was taught to write colour, rumour, license (verb) licence (noun), sulphur, etc etc and I have never felt the need to change my spelling just because I was writing for somebody who comes from the other side of the border. I would have felt I was (a) patronising the reader (b) surrendering my heritage.
