Musicals- Love them or hate them.....
« on: October 24, 2009, 06:27:01 AM »
Nothing to do but try to start a new topic. Im a halfy on this love some but not all. A few of my faves are:

1. Sound of Music- Naturally
2. Newsies- All those cuties singing and dancing, whooooo weeeeeee!
3. 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, hmmm love the songs
4. Annie, just cause I remember it when I was a kid and can sing most of the songs by heart.

One of the ones I was unsure of is The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a bit freaky to me.

Hate them. First one I remember was Oklahoma (won't go there, the musical that is not the state)

I have this memory of meeting a girl when I was 18, finally got up the courage to ask this girl out and took her to the movies. Neither of us had heard of it nor knew anything about it, figured it had Babareno in it, so it should be funny, had Olivia (my true love) so it had to be a winner, right? Yea right. The movie? yea, Grease OMFG!!!

2 minutes into the film and I thought unthinkable thoughts. It was so gripping that within 10 minutes and I was asleep. Ah, it really kept me gripped.
But I have this really bad habit. I snore. Loudly. I wasn't really aware of loud I snored until many years later.

Turns out she hated the movie as well and thought I was off my rocker by taking her to this one. Perhaps I should have taken her to the one next door - Animal House.

But then years later, I hear something vaguely familiar screaching from the idiot box. DD only got a video of that freaken movie. Over and over and over and over and over, really drove me and her mum crazy. Just thinking of all the times I was exposed to it. I still have a nervous tic. Yea a most memorable musical. It certainly left a lasting impact on me.

Actually wrote this hours ago, I was only just now able to recompose myself and hit the send button.

Hey! Ya did ask.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

LOL! Jeez you crack me up! Seriously though, REPRODUCTION! Need I say more I mean jeez just makes me want to make hot wild sex with my, lol ok ok I can't keep a straight face.

Im glad you dont hate Oklahoma, the state, cause I used to live there and well it was aces. Anyways the musical of Oklahoma did suck. I agree you should have took her to Animal House, love nearly all 80s flicks, even SPACEBALLS. Could Mel Brooks go wrong?

By the way to those who think musicals are bad its ok, just know I still have good taste. Honest ;)

Did you start this and where is it I need to read it quick before all laughter is gone from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Them! Some of my favorites are:

1. Grease
2. West Side Story
3. Hairspray
4. Sound of Music
5. Wizard of Oz
6. Willy Wonka

I like most although I was not impressed by Sweeney Todd. To much sickness and death for me.  [smiley=behead.gif]

I have a pretty much universal hate for all musicals.
This is my husband attitude too.  I'll keep working on him to take me to a live show!

I forgot about the Wizard of Oz and jeez Willy Wonk, definitely one of my faves. Sweeny Todd was very odd, not a good one at all.

Good luck on the live show, I don't think Ive ever been to one.

I love them!  ;D

I have since I was a little girl - my parents had the vinyl albums for Sound of Music, South Pacific, Bye Bye Birdie, and Oklahoma.  I used to play those old records and sing along all the time!

Or, I'd ride my bike all over the neighbourhood singing the scores at the top of my lungs.  Or, I'd sing and dance on the cement slab over our storm cellar (in Kansas!  :P) putting on the shows myself.  Hee hee!

Hubby is a bit 'meh' on them, but he goes along for a good sport & I think he enjoys it because I do.  That's my story & I'm sticking to it!  ;)

We're going to see La Cage Aux Folles next weekend starring John Barrowman!!!!  <Swoons>  Captain Jack in a dress!  :D

I have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy a musical - but when I am, I looove them! However, I can completely understand why some people loathe them. I mean, you have two people carrying on a perfectly normal conversation ... and then all of a sudden one of them bursts into song?!?! How natural is that?!?!

But I do love Camelot! And Hair!

I do that. Sometimes. My kids? Noooo, they are never embarassed. I think the term they use is mortified. You think I'd like musicals, but I don't. Kinda like I love cracking my knuckles but it does my head in if someone else does it.

I know what you mean about just popping out and singing. I do it. Heck when J. and I just chatted by typing I would break out into song by typing, now how lame is that. I also have been known to sing while working, while driving oh and head banging to Queen's bohemian rahpsody, unsure of spelling, lol. My nephews just laugh. And I have a song for nearly everything my J brings up. Like that song- thats life. OOOOO I just got to sing. look it up if your unsure, frank sinatra i believe.

Singing it makes you happy inside even when your not so happy.
annie- I- O-D-E-N-T, doo do ddodoodo dododo, lol!
