Teams of two (sometimes spouses, sometimes siblings, sometimes friends) compete to see who is going to open a restaurant with Raymond Blanc. Each team is given a restaurant. They have to name it, design it, decorate it, plan the menu, cook, mange staff, do front of house, etc. Each week they have challenges and one team gets eliminated. Raymond Blanc is the main judge, along with two of his lackeys. It's fabulous!

Do last year's winners still have their restaurant? Do you know anyone who's been?

There was an update show about 2 weeks ago but it didn't seem terribly up to date and was mostly about trying to get the space ready. In fact I don't remember the ending so I'm wondering if it was in two parts or if I got bored and wandered off.  :P Anyway they opened the Cheerful Soul in the same restaurant that the two gay guys used in Marlow (slap in the face much? LOL.)

The winners the year before had a restaurant here in Thame but they didn't stick with it long at all. The restaurant is still there though and I think it's super popular (and expensive!!)

Heee! I don't know why, but I just assumed they keep their restaurant in the space Raymond gave them. I guess it makes sense to move to the best location, though.

I vaguely remember that update programme being on, but I didn't watch. I was not a big fan of the whole cringe-worthy Cheerful Soul philosophy.

And I can't even remember who won the year before! Isn't that bad!?!

I don't remember them at all other than that they were from Cornwall!! The only reason I know anything about the outcome is because the restaurant's in Thame and people seem to talk about it a lot around here still (fleeting fame is better than no fame?)

I had to look it up 'cause it was driving me nuts. Jeremy and Jane Hooper. They opened up Eight at the Thatch, but then gave up in '08 after only six months. It's now called Thatch.

It's not sounding like a great success story, that's for sure!

Weren't the mother/daughter team lucky they didn't loose a finger or two.  How did they ever got onto the show in the first place.  Who would make something with fresh coconut and not even know how to open it.

Watching them last night was good for a laugh or two.

They were awful!! I can't believe he sent a team home before even tasting all the food! That's a first.

I have to say, so many of them were pretty dreadful. It's definitely a worse batch than the past two series. The packet salmon couple? The 25-minute peas girls? The vile winking boys? Ugh!

The two Nigerian women seem OK. And I kind of like the boys with the disastrous pork Wellington - he thought pretty quickly on his feet and salvaged it!

I felt very sorry for the woman who got sent home. I hope she knows it's all her stupid stupid stupid son's fault. He was an embarrassment. It's a shame because she seemed like a pretty good cook.

OK, people at work were talking about this show today, and now you guys.  I think I'll have to watch it.  What channel is it on?

OMG what was WRONG with him?? Dh and I just sat here looking at each other with our mouths hanging open - speechless at his idiocy!

God the coconut women were SO lucky that they went away intact - the way she held the knife by the blade...  :o

Where did they find these people - makes me wonder if they purposely pick some bad ones just for the good TV factor - I mean surely this wasn't the best of the bunch of applicants!?

I watched the first episode on iplayer last night.  I love it!  With the mom and son team, I couldn't understand why she didn't say anything.  He was obviously bombing and he kept looking over to her and she just didn't say a thing.  Is only one person allowed to speak?

And forget the coconut, they didn't know how to open a can... A CAN!
