Really thick bread toasted with butter on both sides. Not really garlicky, other than the frozen stuff called Texas toast, but that's not the same.

It's awesomely good dipped in cream gravy.  [smiley=blush.gif]

Aww a 'frisco melt sandwich using texas toast from Steak and Shake, was like my favourite fast food splurge in TX.

It's SO wrong, but SO good

I wonder what the Frisco sauce is? Looks like thousand island dressing, which is also the "special sauce" on the Big Mac, I believe. Looks tasty, but I think I might die if I ate something like that now after so long without fast food. I might be in serious trouble when we go to Dallas in a few weeks, I expect lots of belly aches. But some of them will be worth it, I hope!  ;)

I don't eat fast food either, but I had some of DH's KFC last year ... and it wasn't a pretty sight. If only a belly ache had been the only symptom.  :-\\\\

Blech. In the last 15 months, I've had McDonalds twice and KFC once and all three of those times, my stomach swelled up like a balloon and I felt horrible. Made me realise how much all that fast food I used to eat in the states was really hurting me. I feel so much better now that I eat mostly fresh food cooked at home.  :)

Texas toast is hugely thick white bread, heavily buttered and then lightly toasted so that the outside is just starting to crisp up but the inside is still wonderful and soft (but warm).  It's the sort of thing that is fantastic with cream gravy or similar but I'd feel totally gross eating in any other circumstance.

They serve it in Dairy Queen or Whataburger with the chicken tenders meal (chicken tenders, Texas toast, fries & cream gravy for dipping).

*drool* Thanks for the far too appetizing description! Man, I do miss Whataburger. And the DQ Dude.  :) Sonic serves the Texas Toast with their chicken tenders and steak fingers meals, but it's definitely not as good as DQ or Whataburger. The toast is always my favourite part. I sometimes used to ask for extra toast.  [smiley=blush.gif]

My mom makes a gorgeous coleslaw with cabbage, lime yoghurt, cashews, and mandarin oranges.
Do you have the recipe for this?

LOL Jewlz, I think we are dangerous for fuelling each other's cravings for Texan food.  The thing is, Texas toast could easily be made from any thick white bread slices sold here, but it's just not the same at home! LOL...

(forgot about Sonic - now THAT I miss more than DQ & Whataburger put together!!)

Yeah, we are dangerous! I don't know about Sonic, I used to like it, but the last few times I ate there before I left, I was seriously disappointed by the quality of the food. I took DH there and he thought it was revolting! I think they have gone downhill over the years. Did you ever eat at Jake's or Keller's? Now THAT is something I seriously miss!

Only thing I like about Sonic is the drinks! Oh and do they still serve you on roller skates? My sister used to work at one in Texas years ago and they did. The few I've seen in Tucson didn't seem to have the skaters.

I agree.  The food there has always been terrible, at least in the past 10 years, but the drinks!

All the ones in Biloxi still skate. I asked the girl if that was a requirement and she said it was their choice. Obviously roller skating is still big in Biloxi.

I'm not a cook --- but the only biscuits I've ever been able to make that tastes really good are the ones I make with Bisquick.  So, do they sale Bisquick in England?
