One of my moments happened when we first moved over.  We were staying with the in-laws and I had an appointment with the GP.  I was talking to MIL and I said that I hoped I had packed my black pants as I wanted to wear them to the doctors...
Needless to say I now use the word trousers.  :P

Yeah those are the exact same suggestions my hubby gave me...which to me, are still unsuccessful and/or unclean.  I guess this kinda goes along the same lines of British people not rinsing their dishes and thinking that's clean.  (No offense to anyone because it's just a difference of opinion.)

This is hilarious, I had to comment - i'm british, my husband is from the US, i don't rinse the dishes and it drives him crazy!! I never thought it was a big deal lol

Oh it's been quite a lengthy topic! Funny when I finally mentioned it to my DH and asked him if he rinsed he asked me why...and I said well every time I pour water into my glass it gets foamy and tastes like soap. 'Oh' he said 'I never thought about it before'! The strange thing is that if you've seen the latest Fairy advert it shows the person just wiping the foam off the plate with their hand and putting it in the drain board!

I love it that people pulled the emergency cord in the toilet. ;D I've always thought I'd do that someday by accident.

I'm the same... I thought not rinsing dishes was universal until it was discussed here on the forum :P.

My in-law's use trousers and pants interchangably. I guess I got lucky!  ;)

DW mentioned it the first time she visited, when she was chatting to me whilst I washed up and then said "are you going to rinse those", I just laughed as I'd seen the thread on here. She's not mentioned it since, though she did pick a 1.5 sink with a movable mixer tap when we had the kitchen done, so she rinses. But it doesn't stop me doing washing up as she hates doing it!
The rule in our house is whoever doesn't cook the meal washes up.
"We don't want our chocolate to get cheesy!"

Another sort of dum@ss thing  I did happened when I first moved to the UK. I gave the men who delivered our dining table and chairs an enormous tip (we are in a second floor flat - no lift - and in the US delivery men charge a fee for each flight of stairs they have to climb).

The man called my husband from the street and said that I had made a mistake and given him  too much money. DH responded that I was American.

What did he mean by that?
