Weird silicone bakeware question
« on: October 29, 2009, 09:27:30 PM »
OK. I've been unpacking all my kitchen stuff at our new house, and I came across something that I know I've never used; I can't even remember when/where I bought it; and, more importantly, I don't even know what it is!

It's a bright lime green silicone thing, sort of like a muffin tray. But it only has four holes, rather than 12. And each one is rectangular and pretty big - like 3-4" high. It sort of looks like it might be for making popsicles, but there's no top with sticks for it.

I'm baffled. And, yes, I know I have a problem with buying every kitchen gadget I see.  :-\\\\

(I should have taken a picture, but I can do that tomorrow if nobody can identify it from my description!)

That's what I thought too, but it sounds like it's higher than it is wider.

jello mold?  I have something that looks kind of like that and it advertises itself as a jello mold.

Yup, higher than wider, and definitely too small for loaves. Each hole is maybe an inch and a half across? And then probably twice as deep.

You could be onto something! But why would I have bought that? I hate Jello!!

Mini-cake pan?  I found this, but with more holes:

I think your original thought was right - popsicle mold.  Although only having four holes is a bit unusual.  Hmm.

IIRC, some of the UK popsicle molds were only 4 holes. It's possible the sticks went missing in your move, but I have a suspicion this is for something else. Now I need to know what it is!!!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
