Sending wrapped presents to the US
« on: November 03, 2009, 10:15:13 AM »
We're not going to the US for Christmas this year, so we need to send our gifts over. Can you wrap the presents that you ship? I usually don't wrap things, but since I'll be sending multiple gifts for different people in one box I'd like to wrap them. I wasn't sure how this flies with US security.

Thanks!

Ive always heard that you shouldnt do it, but my husand has sent me a few wrapped gifts in the past and they were always still wrapped when I received them. I say wrap them - the worst that can happen is they will be unwrapped by the time they get there. I just took a look at the USPS website, and I dont see a mention of it.

I've sent wrapped presents several times & also received the same just fine.  They often use x-rays and scanners anyway, so a bit of paper isn't going to make a huge difference.  Other people may have different experiences *shrug*.

Thanks guys. I think I'm just going to risk it. If they unwrap them, then oh well!

I sent a big box via Parcelforce last year, all wrapped - everything arrived in the exact same condition. :)

Same here, although it arrived mid January

I've never sent unwrapped presents! Either to or from the UK! You'll be fine.

Just a note, I don't know if this is relevant with your case, but you cannot send alcohol through mail in the United States.
09/29/09--Visa Approved!
10/05/09--Leave for the UK!!!
06/15/12--Back in the US indefinitely...

My husband's family sends us wrapped gifts whenever they mail something for birthdays and Christmas. We've never had a problem yet.  :)

You can send the wrapped, but if what your mailing get's searched they'll unwrap it.
