Favourite Christmas films
« on: November 08, 2009, 10:26:23 AM »
Although A Christmas Story is a hot contender, my all-time favourite and one I have to watch every year is Christmas in Connecticut. I absolutely adore it!

(And I must confess my distaste for It's a Wonderful Life, even though it seems to be so many people's favourite. I just find its cliche-laden preachiness slightly gag-inducing.)

Which ones do you like best?

Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and I watched Deck the Halls a few years ago and thought it was pretty funny, too.  :)

I think I must be the only one who doesn't like A Christmas Story.  :-X

My favourites are Miracle on 34th Street (the original), White Christmas, the animated Grinch,  and Love Actually.

The original Miracle makes me cry at the scene with the Dutch girl every time, just thinking about it can make me teary.  I know it is for no good reason, but the look on the little girl's face always get me.

Bah! I am such a sap.

I also like A Christmas Story but it's not my favorite. I think if I had to pick a favorite it would be Scrooged. I lean more towards the humorous ones then the traditional I guess. I like Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey, National Lampoon Christmas Vacation. The fun ones!

I'm a big It's a Wonderful Life lover!  Big believer in the (cliché or not) that one life touches so many others, it would leave an awful hole if that person were not around.  It will always have special sentimental significance to me as well, because my ex-bf (when I was in Florida - and we are still dear friends) and I would always go see it together at the Tampa Theatre each Christmas season, including a 'follow the bouncing ball' Christmas carol sing-a-long, accompanied by the Mighty Wurlitzer.  :)

I also love White Christmas, A Christmas Story, the original Miracle on 34th Street, all the old Christmas cartoons, etc etc.

White Christmas (must pick that up on DVD, anyone seen it cheap?), Love Actually, and A Christmas Story.

Oh and Miracle on 34th Street, but only the original and in black & white (I have been known to adjust my tv if the colorized version is on).

Well, I LOVE It's A Wonderful Life.  Love it.  And after that would be Elf, Scrooged, and A Christmas Story.  Plus Meet Me In St. Louis.  And Christmas Vacation if I'm in the right mood.

Oh, I love Meet Me in St. Louis, but hands down, without fail, watch every holiday season is:

The Muppet Christmas Carol

It's on my list of favourite movies of all time.

Last year, we did watch Die Hard though.  It's a Christmas movie as well!

I guess because I'm younger, I still enjoy watching The Muppet Christmas Carol, and any of the other Christmas Carols with Albert Finney, George C Scott, etc.  I also enjoy White Christmas and Miracle on 34th St.

My husband does too.  He likes to watch them all.  Me, not so much.

The George C Scott Christmas Carol is also among my favourites.  I know the book by heart so can't help being emotionally critical when film adaptations leave out or change important bits, but the GCS version is very loyal to the book.

I really, really, really dislike It's a Wonderful Life.  Miracle on 34th Street, too.  You're not alone!

I don't have a single favorite, though.  There are many I like, but it's really about what mood I'm in at the time.  The ones I choose from are usually: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, A Christmas Story, White Christmas/Holiday Inn, or Elf.

I'm so relieved! I don't want to be the only mean freak who hates something everyone else loves!
