Dirty Laundry
« on: November 09, 2009, 03:24:58 PM »
I am so tired of dirty dingy stained laundry that has been through the wash several times.  I used to use Tide in the States and I have to tell you, I have not been able to find anything at all that can compare to the fresh clean clothes that I got with it.  Is it the washer itself?  Or the soap?  Maybe even the water?  Does anyone here know how to get the clothes clean?? The washer runs for twice as long as they did back home.  The water is twice as hot.  And the clothes come out looking barely clean at all.   [smiley=huh2.gif] What's the secret??

Our stuff comes out fine, and we have used all sorts of detergents - whatever is on special, usually. I wonder if it's your machine - maybe it needs to be cleaned or repaired or something?  ???

I'd venture a guess and say the washer or if you have really hard water. I use the cheap laundry detergant from Wilkinsons and my stuff comes out clean each time.

I had that problem in my old house because of hard water.  Someone here I believe told me about calgon. http://www.calgon.co.uk/  (Not the Take me away one ;D)  And it solved my problems right away.  It's worth a try at least.

I agree, our laundry is not only stiff but I can tell on the white clothes that they never look clean either. I do know we have hard water because the lime scale is on everything and even our hair is hideous:)

I wonder if they have calgon for hair. I had no idea they had it for laundry. Back home it's only for taking a bath.

Calgon, take me away!

It's not so much my clothing as it is my tea towels and dish cloths.

I DO have hard water.  After researching, I read that using white vinegar in the wash cycle will do alot to soften the water and remove dirt.

I use Surf also.  I also used it in the States sometimes and was surprised at the results I am getting here.

I guess it all boils down to the hard water.  I had never even thought of that.  We have lots of chalk in the water here.

I've recently been wondering if the brand Daz is the UK version of Tide. Anyone else think so?

I would be interested in knowing that too.  I just saw an online advert for it and would love to try it.

Large quantities of white vinegar are not as easy to find here as they are back home.  I something called washing soda which also softens water.  One kg bag lasts quite some time.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

After reading up on this, I think this is exactly what I will use.  Thanks so much for the tip!
