When do you put up/take down your Christmas Tree?
« on: November 11, 2009, 04:48:48 PM »
I would usually put mine up in the States the day after Thanksgiving (or sometimes that night) and take it down on New Years along with any other decorations. Just wondering what everyone else does?

I used to put it up the first weekend in December and take down right after New Years.   I was always told that I put it up too early, but I love having an xmas tree! (and it was always a fake one, so it wouldnt die before the big day)

I was actually thinking about this today. We bought a fake tree (horror) last year because we are always traveling around Christmas but want to have something to put up when my step-kids come on Boxing Day.

We are leaving, this year, on Dec 7th and won't be back until the 22nd. So I think we'll put it up before we go so it feels festive when we get home. I'm thinking around the 1st.

I usually put up the Christmas decorations on or just after my birthday, which is the last day in November. :)

I have been thinking about this too.  DH wants us to get a real tree, which can cause a problem when we travel.  We haven't yet fixed our dates either.  So I think we will get it in early December (either the first weekend, or the weekend before as it's my birthday weekend), and probably leave it up until we get back, which might be the 27th or possibly just after New Year's.

oh, we also leave our decorations up until 6th January, so that's basically a month and a week of Christmas in our house!  Yay.  (I really love the holiday season.)

We usually put our tree/decorations up on the first weekend of December (probably Dec 6th this year, I would think) and then take them down on Jan 5th - the 12th day of Christmas (as per tradition... as it's supposed to be unlucky to keep decorations up after Twelfth Night :P).

Best birthday ever!  ;)

It's my hub's birthday, too!  ;D

We put ours up WAY early last year (before Thanksgiving) but it was because we were worried we would lose our jobs and wanted to cheer ourselves up. This year, we will wait until after DH's birthday, which is the last day of November!  :)

That's cool!  It sucks that it's a Monday, this year though.   :P

Us too, exactly that.  Though DH doesn't like it up so early and would rather wait till the week before.  On the other hand my step-mom is Christmas Crazy and tried to convince us to let her put the tree up right before we left for here, and that was in September!  We compromised and let her put up some white lights around the fireplace!

Christmas carols are played from November 1st though round our house! (Also driving DH batty!)

I'd like to put it up on Christmas Eve and take it down at Epiphany (6 January), but DH is going to want it up earlier. It'll probably go up in mid-December, but will definitely not be up beyond Twelfth Night. I'm with ksand24 on this - it's bad luck to keep it up longer! Plus, to me, it makes it less special to leave it up so long. And we always have a real tree, so I don't want it up and drying out for too long.

We put ours up on Thanksgiving day, except last year we ended up putting it up a bit earlier. Mainly because I had bought some new things for it and I couldn't wait  ;D   I love having the decorations up. We do not light the outside lights though until Thanksgiving night no matter what. We usually take them down sometime the first week in January.
