It goes up Thanksgiving Day or the day after Thanksgiving. Comes down sometime after new year's eve. (fake tree- the real ones make my allergies go crazy!)

Artificial tree due to allergies here too. And ours usually goes up on Thanksgiving night or during that weekend and then comes down right after Christmas or by New Years at the latest.

Oh, artificial tree here, too, mostly due to laziness. Not wanting to clean up the fallen needles, not wanting to have to go look for one every Christmas. Not to mention, how would you get a real one to your house over here? I mean, I know lots of people with pick-up trucks, but they all live in Texas.  ;D

Well every year so far that I've lived on my own and out of my parents house, I've always had to drive a fair distance and/or fly to see them on Christmas and had to stay with them. So I've never really had a proper tree up since there isn't much point.
I've always put a wee fake one up (i.e. less than 10 inches tall- though I bought this year a really cool fake one now that is more like wire art instead of tree looking and its a bit bigger) around the 10th-15th of December, and it comes down whenever I'm back from visiting.  This year won't be any different, since my parents are buying most of my trip back for me for Christmas.

My parents usually put their tree up around the 15th and it comes down New Years Day.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I was starting to think I was the only one who does the Thanksgiving thing but guess not.  :) I talked to my husband about this last night and he mentioned the 12 days of Christmas Tradition. He thinks that my Thanksgiving idea is just way to soon to put it up! Oh, and It's also bad luck  >:( I'm not giving up yet though! LOL Last year we had Xmas at my place in the states before I moved over so this will be our first Xmas as a married couple. I'll have work on him and see what happens. I guess it's no biggie if I wait longer then usual but I just get so excited about Christmas...I can't help it!  [smiley=elf.gif]

It can't be bad luck! We put ours up in the middle of November last year for good luck that we wouldn't lose our jobs, and we got the letter on Christmas Eve that our jobs were saved!  ;D I think it's kind of a waste to put it up for only 2 weeks. I like having mine up for the whole month. It's so festive.  ;)

I'm with you on this Jewlz! I guess I'm just not very superstitious about it. It's just a tree how can it give me luck? I don't think it can but what it can do is get me into the Christmas Spirit! I just think 2 weeks is a waste as well. I want it up as long as possible. It makes me feel happy and festive when I see it!

Up about a week before Christmas and down on twelfth night.  I like to really get into the Advent season with calendars and an advent candle to burn each day, then writing to Father Christmas etc - if we put the tree up too early it just seem to over-ride the exciting wait.  So when we put the tree up the children know it's almost Christmas.

Hmmm.... such a good point. I never thought of this before! Hard to do with my stepson, though, as he is only around every other weekend.  :-\\\\ Still, I'm intrigued. I wonder if there should be some sort of build-up to this after all.  :)

Does anyone make ornaments, paper chains, popcorn balls or anything like that?  :) I want to do something crafty this year, I've never done that before.

I do!  I'm such a dork like that, even though it currently goes on my mom's tree, I still do....   ;D

Those glue-cinnamon dough ornaments would be great fun with your stepson -provided he's not prone to eating things like that  ;)

I also like the orange stuffed with cloves thingies too and paper snowflakes

DH came home with an advent calendar for each of us yesterday! We don't have children, ,so that means we can be children!  ;D

My sister-in-law and I made salt dough ornaments last Christmas! It was very easy and loads of fun!

When I was living in Memphis I couldn't find advent calendars anywhere so my mother used to send them to me along with a candle.  My neighbour was so intrigued that she started to receive one too and now I'm back in the UK I post one to her each year as she says she still can't find them.

Most garden places will deliver for a small fee. We've got one that delivers for free.

Needles? Not a problem with wooden floors.  ;D

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

I get sick of it really fast so for us it goes up the Sunday before Christmas and comes down 12th night.  Sometimes the tree comes down before 12th night and only some decorations get left up.  I love it for a couple of days and then I just want it down.

The (fake) tree usually goes up Thanksgiving weekend.  I put the Advent wreath together then too.  The tree usually goes down around New Year's Day.  I already bought an Advent calendar with a chocolate for each day.
