As this will be my first holiday season in England, I'm going to have a Thanksgiving weekend with my husband.  As long as I can find a turkey we'll do the full meal, and decorate the tree together.  Although I'm quite particular as to how the tree looks...growing up in retail and decorating the perfect trees every year is in my blood. Hahaha.

Plus this will be my first year with an artificial tree...I'm going to buy a pine scented ornament to hopefully fool myself.

Ours will go up on Thanksgiving day and come down on New Year's Day. My husband was a bit shocked when I told him this. Thanksgiving seems a bit early for him. We're celebrating Thanksgiving on the Saturday instead of the Thursday since our daughter will be out of town that day. It'll be my first holiday season here, and their first American holiday.

I may try those cinnamon dough ornaments. My husband says there are not very many ornaments in his collection (broken over the years) and since we're moving next summer, we don't really want to spend too much on new ones we'll have to leave behind. Plus, I bet they smell lovely :)

I get sick of it really fast so for us it goes up the Sunday before Christmas and comes down 12th night.  Sometimes the tree comes down before 12th night and only some decorations get left up.  I love it for a couple of days and then I just want it down.

LOL! Me too! I get stressed out if my house is out of order (i.e. pine needles, normal pictures, etc. put away to make room for seasonal decorations) for too long!

Ours goes up sometime in early December - 2nd week-ish - and down on 12th night.

We get ours from dh's brother-in-law who is a green grocer who does trees on the side (and delivers!)

I've had an artificial tree the last few years and always miss the pine smell. I bought glade candles and air fresheners with the pine scent in the past to help fool myself. I've not seen that scent sold here (yet anyway). I'm not sure if we will do a real or fake tree this year so I may not need find that scent in the end.

Normally, mine would go up the week after Thanksgiving, but my daughter is coming to visit on Dec 12th, so we'll be holding out until then.

Anyone had success with real trees that actually smell like pine?  The last two years, they didn't smell at all.  Being from California, I want me tree to smell damn it!   ;)

Our Christmas tree will go up the weekend after Thanksgiving and it will come down the first weekend in January (just an old family tradition for some reason).  My hubby had 0 (literally, 0) Christmas decorations so I ran out to the Pound Shop and picked up a few things...the tree and ornaments we got from Argos (we bought so many Christmas presents from their that I had enough money in vouchers to get both for free).   So unfortunately, we won't have a lot of Christmas decorations  :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'(  This makes me so sad because I'm used to having the entire house, floor to ceiling decked out.  I might have to make another run to another Pound Shop and see if I can pick up some extra stuff for super cheap.

I'm the least crafty person in the entire world  :(.  My sister stole all the crafty genes from my mom and I stole all the "how to fix a car" genes from my dad.  My daughter has actually taught me how to make a few decorations (last week we made a Thanksgiving turkey decoration out of her handprint).  I remember making a Santa when I was little and putting glue on cotton balls for his beard...that's probably the best I can do except I certainly wouldn't be able to actually draw a Santa...lol.  This is a great idea though so I think I might check out some websites for easy homemade crafts that we can all make together.

You can do it!  :) There are things you can download from the internet for colouring and step by step instructions, even handprint crafts:

I have a really pretty (to me) white fake tree that I love, so I am going to put it up tomorrow.  I don't normally do it this early, but... why not?

Completely agree!  Why not?  I was all set to get ours today but it's pouring rain here so we will wait.  Maybe this weekend (but it will be a madhouse then, sigh).

Might put ours up this weekend while we have the little guy, if he is in a good mood. I might make some decorations with him, if he wants to.
