Ours has actually been up for almost a week now. LOL.  We had originally borrowed a fake tree from my MIL, however, hubby wasn't liking it so much and kept wanting to go out and buy one.  B&Q had loads of trees for 1/2 off, and we ended up getting a fairly nice looking artificial one with mixed tips.

We were supposed to be painting another room that night, but on the way home he says, "Do you want to paint or do you want to put up the tree?"  my response, "Oh if I'm given an option I want to put up the tree!".

And I'm so happy that it's up.... even though the extension cord for the lights fried the router...

I do!  I'm such a dork like that, even though it currently goes on my mom's tree, I still do....   ;D

Those glue-cinnamon dough ornaments would be great fun with your stepson -provided he's not prone to eating things like that  ;)

I also like the orange stuffed with cloves thingies too and paper snowflakes

Nigella's tip for kids that eat home made Christmas ornaments: put loads of pepper in them to make them taste bad ;)

I would put our tree up on Thanksgiving night, but I think it's probably too early for DH. We're putting our tree up tomorrow. 3 weeks before is a good compromise and I LOVE Christmas SOOOOOO much that I couldn't bear to leave it longer than that. We'll have nibbly food and wine and Christmas carols and I'm so excited I can't stand it  ;D

Send me some of your excitement, I am struggling to get in the mood. Hopefully gonna do the tree this weekend and maybe that'll help.

Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

I've got a wee brass wire tree with green sparkly things hanging from it-it's about a foot tall  hard to describe- that I'll plunk down this weekend, plus I've got my santa, gingerbread, and snowmen candles to put up and that will be me done. Since I won't be here for Christmas, it doesn't much matter, but it will put me in the mood I think.

Yep that's done the trick. Nothing like a duddle up to pick up your pecker. Or a penquin. LOL

Thanks

Hehehe I just told my sister we had to leave a mince pie and a glass of sherry out for Santa with her kids at Christmas (in the US) and she thought it was a great idea!  :) :)

I thought he liked whisky. We always leave him a wee dram and it is gone in the morning but IF he is a sherry drinker, then where's the dram gone? Might explain Rudolf's red nose.

I did hear Rudolph was a bit of a party animal  ;)

If you have a hearth, sprinkle some icing sugar on it through a sieve, then, next morning, look to see if Santa left any footprints ;)

We are having Christmas with DSS the weekend before Christmas since his mum won't let us have him at all the week of Christmas.  :( But, we will have a great time, and he is 3, so he doesn't know which day is Christmas anyway. Plus he gets to open all of our awesome presents first (LOL... it's not a competition, but you know....  ;))

Any more ideas on fun stuff we could do with him to make it feel more like Christmas? I've been telling him that Santa came early to our house since he was such a good boy and dropped off a suitcase full of presents! (We brought all of his gifts back from the states in one of our suitcases, and they are still in there, so I've been taunting him with it. He hasn't peeked so far, which is surprising!) I was planning to make some cookies with him, since he likes baking with me. We will leave something out for Santa and the reindeer, and hang a stocking on his bed post with something nice inside. What else should we do? Also, any suggestions for a kid-friendly Christmas style dinner? (I'm making a proper one for me and DH on Christmas day, but DSS won't be with us, and probably wouldn't like it anyway!) Or do you think I should just make his favourites (mostly veg and fruit)?

I would cuddle up on the sofa with Alex and read "A Visit from St Nick", put out the mince pie and carrot and sherry, sugar on the hearth, listen for sleigh bells and things (not sure whether Santa is making a special trip if he's already dropped off the presents?). If so, maybe ask a neighbour to shake some bells outside?
