I took some Sprecher's root beer syrup along on my last trip to visit bf in Scotland.

:o Such a thing exists?  Do you buy it directly from the brewery, or is it available in stores?  I want some!

From what I've seen, the Sprecher syrup is available at most homebrewing supply stores.  There's one in most cities, and tons of them online. They often have other flavors as well, like the diet root beer, orange soda, etc.

Yes, I've seen it at the homebrew stores (of which I am sure there are plenty in Mad-town!).  I loooove Sprecher's!

We always used to say in our house that root beer tastes like Purple.  :D DD loved it but DS has not use for it.

And if you have the syrup/extract, then you can make Root Beer Cookies and Root Beer Float Cupcakes, too.

(I've finally convinced my fiance that we're never going to brew our own with the extract we bought in the states two years ago so I can sacrifice it to the cookie gods!)

Mug is just Pepsi's brand of root beer.  I don't think it was the stuff at Asda that I am aware of.

Ah ok with the Mug. DD tells me it was Carter's that Asda used to carry. And it was vile.
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

We  didn't like Carters, found it tasted something funny.

Now I thought it sounded gross, but DH used to make root beer kool aid (he calls it) as a kid. Basically bought the Syrup to brew root beer but used water and sugar (no carbonation). I actually like it now.

I remember that Hire's used to do a powdered mix that was, basically, root beer kool aid.

My grandparents, who owned a convenience store back in the '70s, had some leftover, lurking in the back of the kitchen cupboard.  My grandma made some one day, but I didn't particularly like it.  I think the main complaint was that it was flat, rather than fizzy.  But there was also an odd taste to it.  Of course, that could have been to do with the mix having been older than I was. :)

I'm american and I like it more than a few brands back home. Hubby is british, but when he visits america he drinks nothing but root beer. He is a man obsessed! But we both drink carter's now. Apparently it used to be disgusting, but they changed it. I think I remember trying it a couple years ago and being appalled!

Yea DS, DD and her BF were all obsessed with root beer this holiday. She has grown up with rootbeer but for DDBF it was a new experience. I don't think they had anything else to drink the whole time (well DS did, cuz he is young and needs his milk and juice but anytime he was allowed a fizzy drink, he wanted root beer).

But that is, perhaps, good news that they have changed it. I'll certainly give it another go. If I can find it now. Thanks.
